Target ID Range ON the ID EXCEL

Do deeper good targets out of the id range of the ID EXCEL go into the iron range like a CZ or are we just unable to hear them at all?I'm asking this question because i always seem to hear a lot of iron targets no matter where i am and was just wondering if these targets are coins out of range of identification by the high tone audio id for coins!I could be wrong but it seems to me that the deepest i am able to detect a clad dime is 6".Now this is a carefully freshly buried clad dime so i could be wrong.I've also noticed that this detector will identify a round or a wide piece of iron like a coin, with a high tone ,so how am i suppose to get a good item out of the trash with out digging a lot of iron?I tend to like this detector but just not so sure about its depth.Oh by the way i know my ground balance is good by going into the all metal mode like a CZ and going up and down slightly with the coil and you can hear if your slighty negative(makes a noise when going up),positive(makes a noise when going down) or right on(no noise, silent going up and down).
Thanks,
John B.

The Excel is nothing like a CZ, so no something deep should not go into a negative or iron signal. What 'should' happen is a deep coin may drop down say into the teens for example. But since digging all positives is best, something deep that dropped down to like a +11 is still very "diggable". Another possibilty is that something really deep that the Excel is having trouble gettting a fix on can get tossed up to a +36. That also would be dug cause that's a half dollar signal. Thats alot like deepies getting dropped into the +51 area of the Coin$trike.
Large pieces of shallow iron can fool both the C$ & Excel. But with more experience & checking from all angles you will dig less & less. After many hours I saw iron gave more of a hollow, echo sound. Not crisp like a coin. When we say the Excel is great in trash we usually mean unmasking stuff from benigth alotta little nails & stuff. You may have to get some big iron outta the way to succeed with any unit. Finally, I wouldn't put too much stock into a fresh coin burial as the Excel & C$ don't airtest too impressively. They like a packed ground matrix & it also depends on sensitivity of course. I have been running my Excel on 8. HH, Bill
