I used to, I would get a signal and check it on the screen. To a degree I still do but for the past several weeks I have been hunting a very old corn field that is full of junk, especially a lot of aluminum webbing that was used about 30 years ago when the same field was part of an apple orchard. The aluminum and a lot of other junk all sound good and have the kinds of numbers---between 78-86---that I always dig. But I have been learning---yes, sometimes the old dog WILL learn new tricks---and I am hearing subtle differences in the sounds coming from the webbing that is registering at 80 on the screen and old coins and CW bullets that are registering also around 80. I still look at the screen but I have come to recognize the tones of a lot of the trash and the tones that encourage me to dig the signal. I have found some terrific relics, including the silver 8 Reale coin from 1790 that I found about 7-8 inches deep two weekends ago. In Pro mode those tone changes are really valuable to understand and I am just now beginning to appreciate that. This AT Pro is one terrific detector!
