Target ID 40?

Although the non ferrous numbers are in increments of 1 digit (1-40) it would be fantastic if there were gradations within each digit. Take for example 1 number ..digitally.. divided into 2 increments . So if lets say a clad dime reads 38 (arbitrary #) and a silver dime is 38, but lets say the clad is in reality 38-1/8..and the silver is 38-3/4.. it would be awesome if the nox was programmed to read that.. and so even though BOTH would read 38 on the display, you could then wave the clad over the coil and notch it out.. and yet the silver (even though it was also reading 38 on the screen would ring out.

The machine is being advertised as being able to target at depth. That is the reason I wondered about numbers only going to 40…as opposed to 180 or something.

This is all imaginings and wishful thinking, but it’s all we can do right now. Theoretically if each digit were split into two, the numbers would actually be 80 (even though it shows 40).

Why would a machine that can target ID at depth.. have a target ID range that doesn’t seem to do it justice. 40? This is not a complaint BTW, I can’t wait to get this machine. I ordered one!

"That's a good question Rich?
It's programmed almost exactly like the Safari From - 10 to 40, EQX is - 9 to 40

And Safari was criticised for 'lumping' a huge amount of coinage into TID 36 to 38 etc.
Will the EQX be the same?

And there's another issue: say you wanted to Notch out a square tab TID 15 on Safari: you would have to Notch TID 14 & 16 too.
Will EQX be the same or 'more clever?' Can an exact single TID do the job???

The MX Sport also used the 'horse shoe curve' TID range and to Notch on it you also had to take out multiples and not just a single TID?"

Des you said, "And there's another issue: say you wanted to Notch out a square tab TID 15 on Safari: you would have to Notch TID 14 & 16 too."

I appreciate that info. If/when anyone finds out if the nox can notch out a single number please post that, it might be helpful in avoiding zincolns.
Even if the numbers change at a certain depth, at least I might not have to dig the shallow ones. I would take that in a second.

Keep in mind that a well worn silver dime most often will read a point or two lower on most machines. Notching out a clad dime (38-1/4) might well be notching out a well worn (Seated) silver dime. HH jim tn

Point well taken Jim. Yes, that is good advice. This is for schoolyards and such. I must say, tho, if I lucked into a yard with seated I'd be digging everything!

Just curious?

What I find interesting and disappointing at the same time is 1988ish, the Mark one had a different tone and meter reading for silver and clad.

With all the advances in technology since then, we ought to be able to leave aluminum and get the gold by now JMHO

Maybe it's just not physically possible?

You cant make that supposition. Just because the CTX performs like that, doesn't mean the Equinox will.

"Oops! I made a boo boo!!!!

Just checked the CORRECT TID's for [ square pull tabs ] Safari detector:
They are from 12 thru to and including 15 ( not 16 as I wrote: that's an X-Terra 705 )

So, not that 'I would intentionally' 'notch out' those TID's ( I wouldn't ) but supposing I got so mad after digging the 15th one in a row, ( it has happened on summer beach detecting ) will the EQX be similar?"

I've got several years of Safari experience and I'm a tad confused over the statement that you must notch out more than 1 # at a time. I think you mean to say that since some pull tabs can show as multiple numbers, you would want to notch out a spread of numbers to not see them. Physically, you can notch out 1# at a time.

fwiw, I do not notch out the nickel range but when I hear the tones in that area, I look to see how stable the VID response is. A nickel will never hit a 15 (on my machine), but a tab that shows 14 will jump around and hit 15 at least part of the time I am swinging over it.

It would be interesting if these sub digits were like PPing............ once you zero in on a target it would focus on that target area processing out everything else giving you those sub digits.
