Tanks or Hookah the good and bad?

I was wondering which is better, to dive with tanks or use a hookah unit when metal detecting. I would like to hear the pros and cons of each device. Aloha

If you have never done either, I say go hookah. If you already have the scuba gear, use it and save the expense of buying all the hookah gear to do the same thing. A common AL80 scuba tank will give a couple hours in the depths most plan on using it for.

i have both.
i just got the hookah and it is great with the unlimited air supply.. run time for the hookamax gas was 2.5 hrs on half gallon of gas and for detecting in shallow dephs it was awesome..
scuba is great also because i have a few extra tanks and it give me the freedom of going anywhere in the lake.
with scuba you must have you tanks visually inspected every yr and a hydro stat test every 5 yrs. cost a few dollars.
one thing with the hookah you should have someone watching the unit when you are diving and should also be certified in scuba and hookah..
well i hope this helps anymore questions send a message my way and i will try to see if i can help.
good luck on your choice.

You really want to get scuba certified before you start using the hookah. It's very easy to rupture your lungs at hookah depths if you don't know what your doing.

The physics of what breathing compressed air at depth does in your body is not intuitive or logical. Diving void of that information, in even 3' of water, can be fatal. I don't think you would find anyone who has gone through the training advise that is was a waste of time or unnecessary. On the surface if there is a problem you have unlimited time to deal with it and unlimited breathing air. Underwater it's totally different. Better be safe than dead or injured. jim

I've never used a hookah system before, but I'm a certified diver. No questions, get certified either way. There is a lot to learn about breathing compressed air.
