About a X70. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks reading, and trying to make up my mind on either Explorer ES or X-70, or another brand. I settled on the X-Terra 70.
I am getting ready to retire in March 08, and am going to take up MD'ing for a hobby to keep me active. I am new to this and I'm sure I will have some questions for the old hands. I feel like a kid again waiting for X-mas morning. I live in Southeastern New Mexico. The town I live in is getting ready to for 100 year anniversary next year. Nothing real old around here probably. The town I live in has a population of about 600, but was as large as 6,000 50 years back. No one in town has a detector so am hoping for some success at several old meeting places that have been torn down and rebuilt at another location. The wife & I are going to do a lot of traveling,(motor home) and I am getting some good ideas from all of your great posts.
Thank,
GMB

Glad to have you aboard. I think you are in for a very pleasant surprise! With 6000 population at one time, and 100 years old, there had to have been large parks, picnic grounds and maybe even a fair ground or race track. If your population is now 10% of what it was 50 years ago, you have a HUGE number of old vacant lots to look over! Not to mention the abandoned Church properties, schools etc. Being the only one it town with a detector sounds like you need some help! Especially since you are in the sunny SW! Maybe I need to make me up some business cards..... "Have Detector, Will Travel". Seriously, welcome to the X-Terra forum. If you have any questions or comments, fire away. There are LOTS of great folks on here who will be glad to help. HH Randy

Welcome to the site! Congrats on your upcoming new X-70! Sounds like you are in a perfect spot to me! I look foward to seeing your posts, Beale.

Welcome to the Forum. You made a good choice with the X-Terra. I'm still kind of a newbie having got my X-70 this spring but these great guys on here will be sure to help you out. Using it is pretty easy once you get the hang of it and if this is your first detector ever, you'll still do fine. Ron

Hey GMB ... I am a newbie also .... but a long way away from retirement.

Sounds like you have a great start. My X-70 arrived today .... have not opened it yet .... but will as soon as I get home.

Hey;
Thanks for the welcome. Sounds like a real interesting hobby. I'm sure that you reap what efforts that are put forth. Anyone interested in some Land of Enchantment weather (Its great here, been in the 70's last few days) come on down. Sounds like some of you northerners could use a little sunshine. I know I could use some advice about the 26th of Dec. I was wondering why there is not a classroom section for the X-Terra 70

Highly addictive and no rehab centers around..Seriously good choice as being a newbie you might blow your mind on an Explorer even though its an excellent detector as a newbie with no one to help eye to eye probably a long learning period..On the the other hand XT-70 is user friendly and should serve you well..Gosh in my area place is loaded with detectorists and you should do well..Retired 16 years ago and still swinging weather permitting even though at my age days just aren't as long in the field...Good luck and believe me looks like an easy hobby but a lot to learn....so go slow....

Thanks Dan-Pa.
I'll do that . I'm only 59. Maybe I can still learn a little. My wife might disagree:argue::stars:

Our other classroom is in the field, swinging our X-Terras. :detecting:

For anyone relatively new to this site, I invite you to take a look at the FAQFAQ section at the top of these posts. FAQFAQ contains an index of posts that answer some of the most frequently asked questions. With the FAQFAQ section, along with the search engine near the top of the page and a host of qualified X-Terra users, we haven't found the need for a separate X-Terra Classroom. We all learn from each other. I think you will find the folks here are friendly and knowlegeable. And there are some darn good detectorists too! So dont' be shy about stopping in and making yourself at home. HH Randy

Thanks;
I appreciate the information I have already acquired. I think I'll just sit back and learn (lurk) as much as possible. I'll be back with success or failure after Christmas. Happy Holidays all.
Thanks,
GMB

Oh ... so tie a ribbon around Mrs Claus and put her under the tree ... then you should be able to break out the new x-70 early ...

She will never know. LOL
