Taking your long-handled scoop on a trip

Will be leaving for Florida soon and was wondering how to take ( more precisely pack ) my 44" scoop. I guess I was just thinking of boxing it up with a name tag on it--but now that the airlines are charging extra for each bag ($25)--wondering if I should ship it ahead by UPS. How does everyone else do it?

if it breaks down then split in half and pack it in your suitcase--i did that till i got a case for the detector--now it flys seperate--fly first class and there is no charge. If you can't break it down you have the wrong scoop--get the one that doe's--make your life easy--HH

Saw your handle in half put a 4 inch bushing inside 2 self drilling screws and you are good to go. I bought a large travel scoop from Detector Depot because I go to FLA. several times a year. My son went with me and we just fixed another one. Put them in a large bag because that aluminum wiil put black smudges on your clothes. HH :minelab:

Thats why many people buy the 2-piece scoops. If you have a one piece, I honestly would ship it ahead of time, then ship it home. It will far easier than packing and dealing with the airlines.

So buy the wooden handle when you get to your destination. They are the ones used for a wheelbarrow or post hole digger. They are around $8.00 to $10.00 at your local hardware store..

That is what I have done when I am traveling. Going to Maui next year. I take the detector, the scoop basket, and buy the handle once I am there in Maui.

Go When I come home, just dispose of the handle. Comparatively inexpensive on the whole.
