Taking the Minelab Plunge

Ok....I just got made an offer on a new Explorer + extras from a nearby dealer I'd be stupid to refuse so I'm going for it. I used an Explorer for about 20 minutes on Saturday and got really cofused with it. I know that's not quite long enough to form any kind of opinion on it, so I'll buy mine with an open mind. Anyway, I look forward to visiting this forum for tips & tricks as I learn this thing. HH All

You'll fall in love with it... Just concentrate on the really repeatable signals and leave the iffy's for your next hunt... If it was there before you dug it probably is still there... Just way deeper than you thought.. Many times a 6 inch dime is so loud you think it is just surface change... Guvner..

Always nice to see new people on the forum. Have had my XS for several months and am still learning, but you can start finding 'treasure' as soon as you get your detector. The factory pre-sets are well suited to <EM>'Turn On and Go'</EM> and the learning process. I think the curve is only as difficult as you make it. All you really need is a long handled shovel!!! <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D"> Lots of good luck and HH in 2K2. This site is loaded with info, today I just learned how to load a saved program after reading a post below. Like the person who posted the message, I couldn't find how to do it in the book but someone else responded with the solution. If you have any questions just ask...someone will have the answer. <FONT COLOR="FF0000">They are a great bunch of people</FONT>.

Hi Gary,
That has been my biggest problem is digging the iffy signal and getting rusty nails. Now I have been only taking the repeatable signals from more than one way and forgetting the ones I had to work to get a signal. My finds have increased and the rusty nails decreased. I come at the target with the tip of the coil from 2 or 3 directions. By doing this I haver also been able to pinpoint with in a inch of the target.
First time on Sunday that the Explorer beat my buddies Sovereign on old coins nice finds and the wifes IDX pro for most coins.
The Explorer just takes a while to understand and a person just has to have a little more patience than most other detector.
