Taking Out the Trash

We find a lot of items showing our history, and we preserve them. It's a major part of our hobby.

We also pull out a lot of other things. Some might have been lost (like keys), or was thrown away by people who didn't think about what they were doing (pulltabs, bottle caps, foil, crushed cans). That stuff never should have been there, and we get rid of it. That's another part of our hobby.

Here are some of the more interesting items that came up. They are going to recycling.

Have to wonder ... How could anyone lose a trumpet mouthpiece? Where's the rest of the trumpet?

What kind of area did you find it in? Was it in a school yard? In a park? On the side of a street, where there might have been a parade?

If a guy was in a band, carrying the trumpet and marching in a parade, maybe the mouthpiece fell off from the trumpet being shaken while the guy was marching. He must have been mighty surprised when the bandleader signalled to start playing -- "Stars and Stripes Forever" -- and he raised his trumpet up to play it. What does one do now, for the rest of the parade?

Cheers,

Joe

adjacent to my high school in a grass field... could have just fallen out somebody’s pocket or this area was known the occasional after school fist fight 40 years ago when I went there..

I also have a fair amount of garbage that I keep in a bin. I've only been metal detecting for a year and I already have a collection of junk. I dont have any plans on throwing them away just yet though.
