Taking my X-Terra 70 on a month long journey

So here is the story

I get out of college May 6th and have set up a time in which I can hunt everyday for at least 5 hours. My girlfriend gets out of school June 10th so that will not be a problem for a month! LOL although she doesn't mind detecting. Anyways I have posted this on other forums but decided to post here as well because this is a detector specific forum and I am going to be using my Minelab X-Terra 70. I am going to wake up at around 8am each day and be ready by 9am to start my hunting. I will be gone till at least 2PM so I will have a lot of time to hunt each day straight for a month. I will not run out of spots because there are many parks and beaches in my area and I have only hit them a few times definitely not covering much area. The only park I have cleaned out is the park that is 100 yards from my house because its so close. I really want to get a Pro Pointer and the 5x10 DD HF coil before I begin this journey to help me during the hunt.

My Equipment this far
-Minelab X-Terra 70
-Lesche Digger
-Garrett Retriever

I am going to be bringing my detector, diggers, cloths, gloves, batteries, probably food, and a pouch.

Is there anything else you guys can recommend I bring?

Are there any tips you want to give me about the X-Terra 70 that I could use?

Thanks for listening everybody.

Do yourself a favor and purchase the 6"DD 18.75kHz coil enstead of the 5" x 10"DD coil. I've owned that particular coil with my X-70 and it's a good coil but it has two problems:

1. It's NOT waterproof and
2. The coil cover kept falling off. I ended up taping the cover on so I could continue to hunt with it.

The 6"DD will allow you the ability to access areas that the 5"x10" won't fit into and will separate trash better than the 5"x10" coil. The cost for the 6"DD coil is much less expensive also and it's 100% waterproof.

Well there is a local 6" coil at 7.5khz, would this be a good choice or should I try and get the 18.75khz coil?

Think either would work fine for you. I like the 6" DD HF coil because of how good it does on coins in heavy trash and how sensitive it is on small gold.

X, I had the X70 for a couple years before going to the Explorer. I bought a 9" 3khz coil and my coin finds went way up. Cant say enough about that coil. The lower the freq., the better the responce to higher conductive targets like silver coins. Get a Garrett Propointer, if you dont have one, love mine. Only other things that I use are a good pair of work gloves and knee pads. Good luck on your month of detecting, hoping to see lots of keepers, Joe.

If you already own the 9" Concentric 7.5kHz coil, which is the standard coil, and you want to add an extra coil, without question I'd purchase the 6"DD 18.75kHz coil for all the reasons I listed above. This coil is very good on small gold and has remarkable depth for a 6" coil. It has excellent pin-pointer ability and it will separate good targets, from bad, better than any of the larger coils Minelab markets and it's waterproof! Believe me my friend, you won't be sorry if you purchase the 18.75kHz 6"DD coil. Dad always used to tell me, when I was growing up, "A word to the wise is sufficient" and that certainly would apply here don't you think? Should you have any question, please feel free to wander over to my website designed specifically for those new to the hobby of metal detecting. Here's the link:

Just put a piece of electrical tape over the small hole.
