I posted this question on one of the other forums, but just out of curiousity, I thought we could see how far this thread goes. A friend of mine just recently found a 1916D Mercury Dime, which should have been mine, but that's another story. I am curious how many of us out there have actually found one, what kind of shape it was in, and what kind of location was it found at. Let's see how many lucky ones there is out there!

I came very close a couple years ago. Found a 1916 Merc on daytona Beach, but no "D".

Came close last year. 1916 Merc. No D ! Was very excited when I dug it. Thought for sure I had the coinists Holy Grail. Not till I got home and gave it a good look did I realize that there was no D mark on it. Oh well, I was pretty excited for a few hours anyway.

MJ, I have found three 1916 mercs, but no D. All three are in outstanding condition. I have always figured if I find a valuable coin it will be a 1916 d mercury dime. One of these was found at 2 inches in some moss covered tree roots and I almost stabbed it with my screwdriver. If it had been a D and I nicked it I would have been sick. Just goes to show that all old coins aren't 8 inches deep. I learned my lesson. R.L.
