Taking a Detector overseas

Baritone47

New member
I've just purchased my first detector, a used Fisher 1280x, with hard case, and want to take it with me next month to Thailand.

I am concerned that the detector will cause a problem with security when they find something long and metallic in my luggage, or if I put it through in its hard case as luggage.

Then also, I want to be certain it doesn't get taken away at the other end.

Anyone with experience taking a detector overseas, your feedback and info very very welcome and appreciated.

Some of the poor country's can be a little crazy I think..I think it will be OK where you are going..lots of tourist,Just take a picture of someone detecting on the beach , like out of a magazine.. Don't have a picture of someone finding something rare and expensive..just pocket change.

I would advise against checking the detector as luggage no matter what kind of case it's in.

If you must take it with you, break it down and take it as a carry-on. Bring some documentation, like an owners manual, to show the security people what it is.

I know several military people that take their detectors to Tailand and have never heard of a problem.
