T2 plus 12x10 sef coil vs T2 ltd

baz

New member
Hi there
Could anybody tell me if they have tried both T2 with 12x10 sef coil and T2 ltd. I have used T2 with stock coil on a grass field and found many roman coins, i pretty much hammered this field,
gradually finding less coins each time. I then tried new 12x10 sef coil and immediately found more coins again for next 6 or 7 outings than i did for last 6 or 7 outings with stock coil. This field has been
ploughed before hence roman coins,. There are definately more coins deeper, but unless this field is ploughed again which is unlikely, i will not get many more. These coins are casual losses and
not from a hoard. Does a T2 ltd go much deeper than T2 with 12x10 sef coil?. From what i have read ltd has a boost, but does this boost only work better in good conditions. It would not be so
important to me in ploughed fields as they are turned over again in following year. I detect in uk. Many thanks baz

Sounds interesting...Where can i get a 12x10 sef coil?

I got mine second hand from staffordshire metal detectors in uk, not many come up second hand. Joan Allen or Regtons should do them new in uk. I still seem to pick up small
stuff with this coil.

How about a T2 ltd with that 12x10 sef coil on it.......
Would that be the ultimate deep seeking machine??

I have the T2 version 6 and have been using it with a 12x10 SEF coil I rarely put the standard coil on these days All my recent finds (9 months) on this forum were made with the SEF coil fitted. I find it does go a good deal deeper on Grassland. Plus on a ploughed Field it finds stuff more easily perhaps not any deeper. Finds very small coins i.e. Roman minims only 5 mm diameter. Near the surface mind. The coils are readily available new from Joan Allen etc I would say do not go larger than the 12x10 unless you are only after large finds.

Yes, they work, and yes, they can do reasonably well. I have used an assortment of them on different makes and models of detectors to get a feel for their capability. I own and use a standard T2 as well as other Teknetics models, but only tinkered with the T2 LTD a little. They perform almost identically, unless you employ the 'boost' process and then there is an edge.

If you're hunting plowed fields, the LTD might give you a little better performance, but ti all depends upon your site and your hunting style and settings used. Through the years I haven't been a real big fan of Double-D coils, for the most part, and that's because I generally use a smaller than stock coil, and because I like a light-weight coil. Plus, for me, concentrics usually work just fine. naturally, some makes/models come standard with a DD coil these days and I grew to like the 11" BiAxial coil due to the light and handy feel and it works well. Having used the 10X12 SEF coils I have this to comment on, other than the fact that with all brand tested, I could often get slightly better depth with them. Slightly.

Caution #1.. They are heavier than the stock coil and, due t the lightness of the detector many will feel the nose-heavy difference when hunting. For some, it can be fatiguing.

Caution #2.. Unless you're looking for a buried trash can or a know/suspected cache hidden in a larger metal container, don't use anything larger than the 10X12. The larger coils, and I've used them, tend to lose performance on the smaller sized coins. Both responsiveness and depth.

Then too, for me anyway, while we don't have coins and targets as old as you have, I enjoy hunting plowed (US English :) ) fields over time as the plowing disturbance can bring good stuff up within range. There are a few old plowed fields I work that one had a school, a church, and a small town on them. I envy the date and uniqueness of those ancient coins and artifacts you get to find. :detecting:

I have been hunting colonial plantations way out in the woods alot. These areas are vast and maybe the 12x10 would cover more ground plus get more depth..
Although Monte is right the T2 stock coil is perfectly balanced with the machine.I can balance the entire machine on 1 finger..Great engineering..
