T2 or xterra 705

7centsworth

Well-known member
I have owned several xterras but thinking of getting a t2 classic. Are the t2's as deep or deeper than the xterras? I like the way the classic is less chattery. What would I be gaining or losing by switching?

"Hi there Ki"

Any answer to your question, must be very general, because these two detectors are quite different in their signal processing, (my personal opinion).

How these 'differences' affect performance is related to several factors.

The T2 operates at a 'fixed' frequency of 13 kilohertz.

The 705, by changing of coil, has a choice of 'fixed' frequency' operation....( I have a variety of 7.5 kHz and 18 kHz coils, of various sizes)

You have the 705, so you must be familiar with its depth capabilities in your soils,

I personally would have no hesitation in recommending the T2, because of its ergonomics as well as it functionality in coin-hunting etc.

Regarding depth capabilities; The 'Bi-axial' 11x7 inch coil, has a depth potential on a COPPER coin of ONE INCH diameter, of roughly 7 to 8 inches max.

That assessment is modifiable by, ground ferro-mineralisation and the sensitivity setting limitations imposed by local sources of interference.

The metal 'mix'...alloy..of a coin or target also affects depth of detectability.....a cupro-nickel coin of 1 inch diameter, could possible be detected an inch deeper.

So that implies, a 'thin' gold ring would also be more detectable than a thicker....(if of same dimensions...at the same depth....)

The ground balance setting can also have a subtle effect on the detecting sensitivity to targets of differing conductivity properties.

13 kHz will show a preference to lower conductivity targets, as well as thinner targets of the same conductivities, of the same dimensions.

As you can see then, metal detector comparisons can be a complicated thing, due to not only the machine's design features, but also the target's sort after.

One thing I'm sure of, the T2 will not disappoint......Matt
