I tried again after work tonight. Went to a trash filled location next to the river and got nothing but trash. Was tough going, detector ground balancing out at 55 to 60. (Lots of clay, coins don't sink far just couldn't find any). On the way back I stopped at another playground and I was just getting so many signals. 4 or more per sweep. I heard that on my first time out and was just overwhelmed. Now I know what the T2 is telling me (sort of  ).
Within 1 minute, my first dig, I pulled a 1923 200 DeutschesReich Mark coin (aluminum). (Made at a time during the depression when inflation was rampant, hence a 200 Mark coin). Thought it was an aluminum shopping cart token. Only about 2 inches deep. That's the good thing about these aluminum coins, they don't seem to sink very far. Not worth much, though there are some collectible ones. That coin hit clean at around 89 to 92 I think.
The next 3 coins I got were all next to trash. I mean I barely heard and saw them flash by. Amazing that I could pick it out of the ground with the meter and headphones going off. I pulled three more coins all from the 20's (Not sure on two of them as they are corroded), one in near perfect shape. See pictures below. The other one is a 1925 .10 Reichspfennig.
I was running the detector in db mode so I could check them with a slower pass (As Mike H. said). ID wasn't too off in that mode with a slow pass. After I saw that first coin ID higher than the more recent stuff I've dug I focused on higher numbers or numbers that hit and sounded more consistent, though they often hit in the bottle cap range (70's).
I have to say it was awfully fun to dig these coins when it was such a challenge to pull them out of crowded areas. I only hit one small area today, lots of signals, think I'm going to pull some old stuff out of this spot. No keepers deeper than 3" or 4" today. Dug a 6" deep steel ring that had me thinking a goody though. Didn't dig much trash either, though probably passed over more coins. Not bad for a 45 minute stop, but darkness stopped me.
So far, in limited use, I am really getting to like this detector. Still not used to the speed. I swing it at about 2 seconds or faster per full swing (180 deg. arch) and now like swinging it slow in db mode over the signal just to help narrow the target before pinpointing. I've played with lowering the sensitivity on pinpointing too, but doesn't seem to help me much thus far.
