T2 first outing

Herb Jones

New member
I took the T2 out for the first real
dah if hunting and put it to the test. decided to run it with
disc at 80 and compare it to a bandido II uMax and a vaquero set the same.
that way I could sort out the tones more easily., and
compare readings on known objects ... went all
day and found coins with both Tesoros, and not a
single one with the T2.... every time it said $.10 or $.25 i dug trash... every single
time... maybe 20-30 targets.. i was swinging curb strips in an old
run down town .. it got very frustrating. well anyeay I loaded up to leave
and when packing up the gear, decided to moint the little 5" coil and get a feel
for it. (up til now id used the stick coil).... well it was dark when i finally left. my first 5 targets
ID'd properly as coins. literally nailed a silver quarter within my fist minute of using the new 5"
coil.... great combo. heading back out today.... looking
forward to hitting a few couple of more trash infested sites and seeing
what i can pull up through the cracks

What kind of trash were you digging with the stock coil ? Rusted iron ? Did you double check your holes when you removed the trash ?

In any case nice find.

Have you done any air testing with your stock coil to see if it is getting good distance & proper id, possibly a bad coil.

heavy trash from an old demolished railroad station... its all good... just bee to the machine

There's lots of different trash that reads like dime or quarter. Set at 80 you're only going to get the high tone.

I'm not sure that setting the T2 like your other machines is a good way to test drive the T2, from your other machines the T2 is a different breed for sure. I like the Tesoro's but setting the T2 in sync with the Tesoro's isn't going to give you the same results. Take your experience and apply to your hunting, but take the time to learn the T2. You'll pick up on the general stuff pretty quick, but you'll have to learn the T2. No, its not going to sound or even act like your Tesoro's, keep what you've learned about the Tesoro's and learn what's new and different about the T2.

The stock coil your talking about I assume is the 11" DD and in a REAL trashy area you can get a LOT under the coil at one time which adds more to the detectors processing at one time! so the smaller coil reduces the total amount of targets beneath the coil at one time, freeing up the processes. For the next test drive of the T2 try a little less trashier place, and forget the Tesoro settings. review the manual, get a better understanding of the T2, purposely select some settings that will best make the T2 behave in the manner appropriate for what your hunting and the area your hunting in.
If coins are not that deep then don't set the sensitivity to high, if your hunting for silver coins then crank the discrimination up, but if the area is SUPER TRASHY then you would do better by digging up a lot of at lest the higher conductive trash anyway to better unmask the good stuff.

honestly I didnt realize the site was so trashy, until
i tried thr T2. ....both trsoros
had mid sized coils and simply discriminated the trash out. and
i should clarify. indidnt really set the machines up the same. i just set them to
shoot coins at the highest disc level. when
i got a good signal, i would check it with the other two machines to get a feel of how
they all responded to the same target at depth, and to try to sort out the different tone settings on the
T2. i had forgotten all about the small coil in the trunk
. but when i installed the 5". all of the traah problems were eliminated... ran like a different machine.
the stock coil isnt broken, i was just using it in an area that is better suited for a smaller coil. i pulled almost
30 coins with the T2/5" in that same trashy park yesterday... virtually no can slaw or tabs.
its all good i learned a lot. taking the larger coil to a less trashy area today... shoild be fine

I can relate to under estimating the trash because of how quiet Tesoros run. I'm just learning my ATPro, and retracing where I've gone numerous times with my Vaquero, Deleon and Compadre. When I run the ATP with iron audio on I realized how nasty that site is. I can hardly find a place to GB!! But I'm pulling silver out of what I considered a pretty thoroughly worked site, so I'm happy.

exactly... i always just
poped coins there... it was wild
getting a new detector and only
pulling trash. i had to
walk across the street to find a decent clean spot to
GB.... too bad beer tabs have no intrinsic value.... id be wealthy

Have used the T2 for many years and never had any trouble on even the trashiest saxon/roman sites, must admit rarely use the stock coil as i have never really had faith in it if i am honest.Mainly use the NEL Sharpshooter coil as i feel its not all that far behind on depth but much sharper when it locks onto a target,if its ultra trashy then i either use the NEL Snake or the smaller 5'' coil, both designed too pull targets from in between the trash.

Running a T2 at 80 on discrimination is basically knocking about everything out apart from good finds basically just inches under the coil,i very rarely go over 10 on disc,on clear sites i normally run it about 4-5 max, these are the settings that i use for the most part 75-80 sens,4-10 disc,2tones or even 3 tones,if running it in 2 tones all you then get is the grunt for junk and of course a decent signal for decent targets.Just have a quick glance at the screen and if its 40 or below or the signal bounces as i call it ie decent signal but bounces from say 50-80 on both swings then that odds on favourite iron. But any other decent 2 way signal or even if i am still not sure as sometimes the target/s can be below say the 8'' mark and they then wont show a reliable signal on the screen but audio is far more reliable at greater depth, then of course if one gets below the audio level then you still possible could get a small threshold hum that its trying at last resort to tell you that something is on the total limit of the T2's depth with the stock coil,of course if you use a larger coil then the audio will still give some indication that a target is deeper, hence the reason why its always important in my mind to have a decent set of headphones so that one can hear those ultra deep whispers.

My T2 is one of the original green machines and not even one of the fancy updated models,if it ain't broke dont fix it,one of my all time machines, one of the easiest detectors too setup just seconds from switch on and and fast grab then you are away detecting, mine has found me some of my best finds like celtic gold staters both 1/4 and full, but in trashy sites then a smaller coil on any machine is the only way,but running a T2 with 80 on discrimination is not the best setting in my honest opinion,of course others may think differently.

I can relate to that. Running around in circles trying to find a place to GB. That's when you know an area is littered in trash or the ground is unforgiving.

My settings are about the same as mega when using my nel sharpshooter on the ltd2 and good to go for me anyways.
