Hi All, Haven't posted anything in the last week almost. Been real busy at work and when I have gotten off it was 2-3hrs of detecting then home for a shower, meal, catalogging some notes and sample analyses. Anyway I had a pretty good weekend overall. Would had been better if my wife had let me detect all day Saturday. I had my whole weekend planned to go to the beach and she took care of that with by handing me a honey-do list Friday evening after I got in from detecting.
Friday I went to an old home site I had been eyeballing for some time. I finally caught up with the owner of the place and we talked some and I showed him my detectors and even let him try out the T2. He said he used to detect years ago but gave it up. He finally told me to help myself with the place and good luck then drove off. The weeds there was pretty high and the areas that I would say was detectable were limited. I did ask hime before he left if it would be alright for me to bring my mower there and cut some of the brush and grass. He said it would and I thanked him for it....knowing he was probably getting the better end of the deal.
I started in a little clearing next to a big oak tree. The shade had kept the grass and weeds out pretty good so it was workable. I was out there maybe a half hour before I got my first real solid hit that showed up as a quarter. The depth indicator showed it at six inches. I pinpointed it, dug the plug, inserted my pinpointer, got the hit and dug a little left to the side of my plug and there laid George all nice and shiny. I knew it was silver as soon as I seen the shine. The next silver find was that of a Merc, then another Merc, then I hit about four wheaties in a row, then a Silver Roosie, then one or two more wheaties, then another silver Washington, then two more wheaties. Now this is not to say I didn't find any clad between these finds because I did. Not a whole lot but some. My total face value for the day was 2.32. But when you're pulling silver and wheaties it's all good.
On Saturday after I got through with the Honey-do's (Beach Busters! ), I went to a local park to try out some settings I have been working on for jewelry and more specifically Gold jewelry. Between my taking notes and trying out the various settings I did manage to find some clad so not all was wasted. I found more in face value (2.92) than I did the day before, but you just gotta love the silver thus I place more stock into them. I got a lot of good notes and found out some other new stuff about the T2 that I haven't noted before and these few things I will keep to myself.
SUNDAY....now here I am all set for the big day. I had planned on detecting this place for quite sometime and finally got the ok to do so. It's a big lake park that has been closed now for almost 10yrs. I may have made mention of it here before but today...I was going to detect it. It too like the old homestead was overgrown with weeds and brush and the only areas I saw that I was going to be able to work were some sandy areas right along the water line. I had to watch for snakes and gators though since I had seen a few on my drive right up to the weed line. I had my T2 and TR with me, I strapped on my .45 just in case and proceed to the waters edge, as soon as I got to it there was a water moccasin about 4ft long slittering through the water. Well as far as I am concerned so long as he/she was going the other way it was all good with me. I looked out across the water and saw three gator heads looking in my direction but that was cool too so long as they stayed out there and didn't want me for lunch. Have you ever detected where yuor eyes are shifting for the water to the screen and looking around all at the same time. I will tell you your concentration is not all too good. I tried to remain focused but it was all I could do to just keep my eye on all that was going on around me. Having the headphones on didn't help matters either. Anyway, to make a long story short I did come away with four nice gold rings and a heart shaped pendant or earring, which I am not sure of. The rings were aboslutely georgeous and you can check them out on my website by clicking on my link below and going to My Photo's Page and scroll down to the 3-05-06 finds. I haven't taken pics of the coins I found on Friday since I have them soaking right now but will do so tomorrow and try to get them posted this week. I will be here tomorrow then it's off to Alabama for me again. I'll be there the rest the week working though expect to get back by Friday so I can go back to the lake. Will tell y'all more about this place later on. I tried to hook up with Bobby again though he too was working out of town all last week so I didn't get to go back to his place to find those cache's. As far as I am concerned they are mine and I will find them......just a matter of time. Go and check out my finds...sure are purdy ones.
