T2 coil bad

ddigger

New member
I called Teknetics and they said it as not repairable there was a short in the connector
and I would have to buy a new one 11 in coil too, not that old anybody else have this problem

Over here in the UK the stock coil for the T2 was one of the biggest problems in terms of reliabilty of this detector and many had to be exchanged for new ones,as luck would have it ihave never had any problems with mine but i tend to use the 12x10 SEF coil which is built to a much higher quality and just keep the stock coil as a backup.

Thanks, I took it apart and the ground co ax wire was broken and it is so fine not to be repaired in the field.
A quality wiring would have been better. I found that light guage wires in most detectors are a continuing problem as with batt. to main board wires as is vibraton between connectors and wires.D.

if not..then that is the chance one takes buying used..

If he took it apart, that most likely would void any warranty.

ddigger... The cable connecting wires at the cable plug to the control box of most all of the detectors can give a problem.
Do not try to repair it yourself, but take it to a well qualified electronic repair shop where they have the necessary how to
and equipment.

Then take precautions to make sure that the cable does not have any chance to flex as it comes out of the cable plug
at this critical point. Twisting the cable around the shaft looks good in ads, but it may cause too much tension both at the
search coil and the control box cable plug due to being at a tight twist or flexing at both of these critical wear points. If you
run the cable up the shaft with just one or two twists as needed for adjustment and secure the cable in a easy loop
between the control box and the upper end of the handle this could help.

I'm truly sorry that this has happened as it puts a kink in our enjoyable pastime. My best js

Thanks all, yep I took it apart, I'm pretty good at most repairs but this has too fine of co ax and my 73 year old eyes are old too.LOL

I offered to take a look at it, hopefully my eyes are better. I'm nearsighted, so that's kinda like built-in closeup lenses, lol!

My T2 was brand new and not had any problems with it,but what i find annoying is the fact the you guys get a full 5-year warranty but over here in the UK we only get a 2 year warranty. But the coil cable and coil connection nut is of poor quality compaired to the rest of the detector,i also have a DFX and the build quality including all the coils is in a far superior league although i will say that the T2 is my favourite detector is just the build quality that lets it down.

I didn't catch the part where he took it apart............ and if it were a short in the coil, and under warranty for original purchaser for 5 years.. Teknetics would have fixed or replaced it..
