Naturally it can depend on the make and model detector someone uses, but with the T2 and Omega I don't mind a quick reduction of the Sensitivity. Not a little, but usually almost full reduction, if necessary, while I set the detector down during a recovery.
Most of the time I hunt with a top-quality detector in hand, such as your T2. I also don't skimp of headphones and like the best I can use and, in my case, those are the Killer B Wasp or SunRay Pro Gold models. They are essentially the same headphones, and one nice feature with them, and many other headphones, in the compatibility switch. IF, and I mean only IF, I get a lot of annoyance from a hand-held pin-pointer that I can't quickly eliminate, I just flip the toggle and that cuts out the audio. Then, when I stand up to get back to detecting, I flip the toggle the other way.
I personally use the Garrett Pro Pointer and seldom have a problem with it. Sometimes a little, but it depends on how close the pin-pointer is to the search coil or control housing. I don't use a pin-pointer with every recovery. Matter of fact, I only use in sporadically when I haven't done my part of pinpointing, then isolating the targets with my screwdriver to pop out of the ground. Sometimes the target might be odd shaped or canted, plus a larger-size DD coil can sometimes be a little more difficult to pinpoint with than a round concentric coil so you could be 'off' slightly.
When using the pin-pointer it isn't turned on for very long, either, as I should have isolated the target pretty well and if it's just a quick assist in recovery it usually isn't such a big deal. Now I did try the Pistol Probe and gave it credit for decent depth of detection, but we seldom need that much. not really if we've already come close to the target through isolating the target with the detector. But I didn't like the bulky size, the array of knobs to tinker with, the 'pistol-like' appearance on my detector belt. Not anywhere near a park or school or other populous area.
Through the years I have tried all of the popular pin-pointers and didn't like any of the handhelds all that much ... until Garrett Metal Detectors released their Pro-Pointer. It works very adequately.
Anyway, you can try a quick reduction of the Sensitivity, if needed, or just toggle the audio 'off' with good headphones.
