T2 and Coins question ???

Hello all,

I'm really happy with my T2 but I'm wondering where it stacks up with some machines meant more for coins. That's my main focus, but being in Germany, relics abound. Since the T2's frequency is at 13 I'm wondering how it stacks up against a machine like the Fisher Coinstrike (or other machines) where the frequency is around 6. Not sure if it matters in Germany, as the material of the coins seems to vary.

Basically I'd like more opinions comparing this machine to other "coin only" machines. Don't worry, it's not leaving my hands. What am I missing, if anything.

Thanks,

The one thing I can say about lower freq and the T2 is masking... the fisehr has a problem with masking there is a delay followed by the low tone. And if you have a lot of trash and nails and rust the T2 is going to hit faster and see better. There are tricks with the fisher but the T2 will be a better machine and I think with a smaller coil on the T2 you won't be able to beat it. But most of us have a few if not a lot of different machines. The fisher is great (the 70 pro) because it puts nickels and above in high tone so silver always comes in at high tone. The downside is you can't really read the meter as well as say numbers or a needled meter and the T2 will average different targets together or close to each other where the fisher will hit a lower tone that you might not dig. With the T2 you may see a high number and then a low one but on the fisher you may get high tone and then iron or pull tab. So numbers are better for me.

I would wait and see in the near future what is coming out this winter by all of the big name brands before you buy anything new. I would keep the T2 becasue as Paul says (old calif) the T2 is one of if the not the best at seeing through iron for coins or relics.

Thanks lcpm,

Great post, I've read most posts here but you gave me some new information. Never thought of better seperation due to frequency. Still learning my machine and it's really odd how great it is at separation with the big coil. A smaller coil will be interesting to see. Might help out in trash simply because we might be able to deal with the T2's sensitivity to sensitive ground better (light less of it up)? It is hard to read the ID when it jumps around so much, but I am getting better at it (And trusting it). With another detector, as you said, it would average it (Be it maybe with sound or a not so clear response), so we are getting a bonus.

Much thanks,

Bill Ladd, product tester for Fisher, posts a lot on the Coinstrike forum and recently started using a T2. He's a very experienced Coinstrike user and has been very enthusistic about the T2's performance.

Numbers will repeat...when I was in a real bad park in San Francisco I would see a 80 pop up and then numbers started to fly. It was that 80 that made me dig and find a silver dime...yeah it can be a pain but that is hard park hunting so I always bring a back up.

I think the T2 is really best at relic hunting and empty lots but I think the small coil may change how it works at parks with high trash and bad ground. Maybe the company will come out with a new machine that will be more for parks and schools or gold hunting time will tell but I think the T2 is going to be a classic and be put into the top ten as far a new detector go..

More useful info lcpm... it goes in my T2 useful posts... lots of them here. I wondered about those numbers that pop up and then are replaced. It appears to be worth digging. I found a few more finds tonight. Got my first button and boy did it hit freaken hard. Thought it was elongated by how it pinpointed, guess it was due to the curve of the button?
Got another Hitler coins tonight, this one was thin and bronze, about three inches deep from 39'. A little bit of collectability. Hit solid and almost didn't get it as after I popped the plug it didn't hit. Covered the hole thinking it was a spurious signal then it came back. Pinpointed better to find it was on the edge of the hole.

So many signals in this playground and it's tough cause the coins hit where trash does. Really need to feel around with pinpoint. Luckily it's all shallow. Can you believe all these coins (about 10 now) from the 20's mostly (to 40) are at 3 or 4 inches deep! They ain't sinking. Right next to a 500 year old castle but can't seem to find anything deeper??? Eventually.

2 pics attached. Any ideas on how to post them so they appear smaller. Don't want to go over the max size. Not a prob with these though.

Thanks again,
Earthmansurfer
