T-2 and noise....

Well I guess my first question is how far can I go down on sensitivty and still get decent depth..Last night squeezed in about an hour before a severe thunderstorm hit. I was hunting on the outside of the fence of a baseball field and looking up there were transformers and also the upcoming thunderstorm could have been a problem with chatter.
I tried changing frequencies and lowering sensitivty..Frequency change did nothing but lowering sensitivty cut down the chatter..Of course its brand new to me and expect a learning period, but I know with my CZ70 a sens. setting of 4 was tops with no loss of depth. I noticed right away I was really covering a lot of ground as it will accept a faster swing and the 11 inch coil really does the job. Gosh it is mighty sensitive even to minute pieces of metal and dug several in the nickle range.. I did dig a 3 inch clad quarter, 6 inch buffalo nickle with good ID.. Any input would be appreciated...sure easy to setup but do expect a learning period and perhaps my learning period can be cut down with some of your thoughts...Surely no rookie, but a newbie to this unit...

For a large coil the pinpointing is super and didn't even detune(narrow down the target as Teknetics puts it)

Hi Dan,
I think you're going to find the T2 to be a little noisier than what you are use to using for the most part, especially around any kind of RF surroundings and up close to metal fences and such. But that just seems to be the case when you have this much power at hand and a big coil. Kind of reminds me of a real hot Nautilus that you just have to turn down for stability around any kind of RF but is great when the power CAN be used.
I used a T2 this Wednesday that Ronnie Dugger had just got back from Teknetics with a fresh software upgrade and I could see a little improvement overall but it's still a little noisy in the areas I mentioned unless the sens is turned down.
Tell ya what though, I really like the feel of the T2 and it has the absolute best separation of ANYTHING I have ever used and can only imagine how good it'll be when a smaller coil is offered.
Overall I'm impressed with the raw power it has "when in the right place to turn it up and use it".
I'll put it this way, I love to relic hunt more than anything else and if I knew I had a 2-3 mile hike in front of me through the woods where I could really turn up the T2, I wouldn't hesitate to bring it instead of my Explorer. In that kind of scenario it will equal if not surpass the Explorer in depth. Unless I'm running a 15" WOT coil that is :)
If Teknetics plays it SMART and offers a good selection of coils (big and small) then the other manufacturers will really have something to worry about. When that happens I'll buy another T2 to keep.
H.H.

I found turning up my disc a bit dropped out some of the RF interference. That is if your hunting a spot that will allow a higher disc setting.

Does high discrimination hurt depth???...Being a silver coin hunter could run it real high as nickles even old ones are not my cup of tea. Of course in local parks imagine even at real low sensitivity it will get the shallow goodies along with the nickles and gold rings with low discrimination. Only way to get a jump start is to ask questions and feel we will all learn..Actually field time is where its at and with only about an hour in the questions will come...

I found just putting it to 40 (and of course higher) would eliminate noise. As for the disc = depth I did not notice a difference but was not in a spot with deep targets. Maybe someone with a test garden can check it out. One thing I did notice when I dropped the sens as not so much a loss of depth(some) but more a loss of signal quality. Being a selective tone driven detector that made a difference in ID.

Dan,

I'm glad to see you like the T2. I've only had to drop the sensitivity a couple of times. The T2 still did a respectable job and it might surprise how fast it can seperate targets especially when you run the sensitivity low. I've already been 'clipping' along at a pretty good pace (for me) and had the T2 seperate a coin from a pulltab surprisingly close together. As Mike Bearden has commented... the T2 is excellent at relic hunting too. It can do a very good job at picking up what other machines have missed. I'd also rate it excellent in iron. It hardly makes any chirps or pops but still can sniff the coins out. I don't even hesitate to grab the T2 over my Explorer at times. They both have their strengthens at different sites. I love my Explorer but the T2 has fit my needs quite well too. As you might remember I also own a 3D. Now, as you well know ANY CZ is hard to beat... :) The only downfall of my 3D is it's not as easy to use as the Explorer or T2 in heavy iron. But, I've also haven't seen many machines go as deep as a CZ. One thing I almost forgot to mention is that it took me about 35 hours on the machine to get everything clicking. At 50 hours it had impressed me quite a few times in pounded areas. Enjoy the new toy.
