It's my last day tom before I go back to the Philippines and I wanna try Hyde Park. Has anyone from Sydney detected that park already? I'm thinking since that park was busy during the Pope's visit you'll find something interesting.

Sead. I would advise against it. Yes it would be lucrative, but as I indicated in an earlier post, it's my understanding that either the Head Gardiner, or the Park Ranger, is hostile to detectorists. It is one of a few spots that you may run into trouble if you detect there. There is a large park land between the Sydney Cricket ground and Randwick Race course that may prove to be a better choice. I can't quite remember the name of the park land. I think that it is Centennial Park. It's huge! and I think that it was also used in the Popes visit.

Thanks Mick! Well I'm gonna go ahead and take your advise and check out that spot that you gave me. I do hope I can still detect tom.

Yup... Centennial Park and also the Domain which can be accessed near the Opera House. I don't know what the grounds keepers are like there but Hyde Park is right in the middle of the CBD and it probably would be a little too public for most. You'll certainly have an audience. Watch out for syringes though - and don't detect after sundown to avoid getting robbed by desperates! (They stole my iPod whilst I was wearing it)

Good luck Tom.
As an interesting aside. My grandfather used to be the head Gardiner of the Domain in the late 50's and early 60's. I reckon that he would he'd have my guts for garters if I tried to detect there. I'm sure that a lot of detectorists would like to hunt there. not only for the modern stuff, but it is probably the oldest park/garden in the country. The oldest bridge in the country, was discovered there only a few years ago. It was covered by dirt. I'd better stop, as I'm starting to drool at the thought for something that is out of reach.:nopity:
