I cant afford the newer excals right now.
But if given the chance for a earlier sword would it be a wise investment
Or a bad idea would appreciate your opinions
Thanx in advance

Many actually think the "Sword" models are better. :detecting: Because of this they often sell for a premium over the later Excal models when they are in excellent condition. The best buys seem to be the early regular Excaliburs that came after the Sword models, but before the Excal II.

The problem with the early models is that they are getting quite old and good parts are harder to come by. Last I heard Minelab will no longer service them so you are on your own if something happens. The coils and headphones are interchangeable, but the batteries (the outside tube), housing and end caps are generally not.

Ya, I've just ordered one and have done a research on what can be got and what can't. The pots seem to be the part that's hardest to replace, so if you get a sword, be sure to use it with a guard to protect them from impacts. Word is though that they were very well built and based upon the X2 platform wich I found to be very stable and deep with my WOT. The phones "redheads" especially are supposed to be very good too. OBN has a lot of knowledge about this model it's great to have such a keen "student" of the hobby to ask.
