switching to a VAQUERO,

kaolinwasher

Well-known member
As you know I have used the outlaw, this last summer , but have decided to get a vaquero, THE REASON- I need more depth in the farm fields, and i like to relic hunt , I got the outlaw because i planned to hunt soccer fields , but never got out to really use it for what i intended, I had the bliss for deep targets in the farm field , and that broke down , so I used the outlaw what i found out is the outlaw is a perfect detector for sports fields, it seems to ignore small junk very well , in both disq & all metal I regret to part with it but i can not afford both, and i have always wanted to get the vaq, for a long time , but i always got deflected, i got the musketeer instead , then later the SOV GT, then the bliss , it was deep the bliss, but its been in repair now 7 months and that has turned me against it so thats going to be sold far a bargain basement price. but i think the VAQ will get deep , and has a nice all metal and would work good for me , If i could choose between the VAQ or the outlaw for my soccer field no doubt it would be the outlaw, but relic hunting the vaq, so after the 1st some time i will put up the outlaw for sale at a very reasonable price , just wanted to say this in case some wondered why is he selling it does he not like it . some day i hope to get another outlaw should i get the chance to hunt sports eareas again -- Gunnar

I look foward to your finds with the V. I'd also like to know your thoughts on the V vs Outlaw after you've used the V.

Enjoy the V Gunnar, I always enjoyed your video's, and look forward to any you may make with the V.

Let me know how you like the "V". I just bought a 10x12 SEF coil for it so I can hunt my fields more efficiently. Hope you like it.

The Vaquero with the 10x12 Tesoro Widescan coil is all I use for relic hunting . I see no need for anything else. If you get the 10x12 for it and try to run it Supertuned it will false sometimes, so I just back the sens off a little.

I'm just getting acquainted with the V. One thing I discovered on mine is there's a considerably noticable increase in air test distance when I set the sensitivity into the red zone compared to the umax models I'm familiar with or even the sensitivity set at 9 or 10.. Notice I didn't say "super tuned", just set well into the red zone. You might play with yours to see how it works.

Once you learn the "V" you will like it. It will also do good for you on the ball fields and tot lots. Sometimes when we have an event in our area, I will hunt to see what everyone left me.
The area is trashy. So , I do my ground balance. Run my disc to where I will get a nickel. Turn down the sens. and check to see how far a nickel will be away from the coil. When it is about 2 or 3"
I hunt. With the sens. turned down low it will not get much depth. That is what I want in this one place I hunt. It used to be a city junk yard. It will do you good in the field for relic hunting also.
You will really like it. Just take your time and give your self time to learn it... KEN

thanks for all the advice, and i think the 10x 12 would be a good 2nd coil glad to hear it works good , QUESTION? which is better sounding to you guys the hight tone or the low tone , ?? machine

As a very new Vaquero owner myself I like the high tone but then again i haven't heard the low. i have yet to hunt with headphones but I cant see it being a problem either way.

Mr. Gunnar, I wish you the best with your new "V" machine.

Get a jump-start with their online manual :)

Gunnar, I am glad you are getting the V. I can't wait to hear your opinions on the Vaq vs. Outlaw. I know they are both good detectors, but can't wait to hear your opinion.

Gunnar, just some food for thought- I have never owned the Vaq. yet, but from what I have seen I have a hard time believing anything could beat a Tiger Shark with a 10" coil in all metal mode. In my one year old coin garden most detectors do not do well on them freshly buried coins. Nobody can hit the 8" penny, nickel, dime, or quarter. The Tiger in all metal can hit all the 10" targets using a slight threshold hum. The 12" targets are there, but you really have to listen. I have used it on land and it is heavier, but it can be hip mounted. If you are a disc. hunter, it's disc circuit is not like the regular Tesoro land machines. It is hard to disc out tabs. It is a depth monster and I don't think any relic could hide from it.

Jim, thanks for the online manuel, you would be a great costumer service man, Rainyday, if they had that tiger in the light housing with the choice to use or not our own headphones, i would probably get one I have heard from some seasoned water hunters, and they love that machine, and of course piles of rings to go with it . I am so skinny i would get hypo fast , the best candidate would be some guy who was a few pounds over weight and could handle the cool waters or a good dry suit. rumor is a lake by me had 500.00 in gold coins lost thru a spear hole , it has never been found yet

Response to the tone question - I started out with the SSumax which is a high tone and prefer that so I had my V modified to the higher tone option. Just personal preference as every Tesoro I own is higher pitched than the Vaq when I got it and I'm used to that. I've seen it posted that some much prefer the low tone, but I didn't care for it. As I said, personal prefrerence.

If you can swing a Tejon, I cannot say enough about them and fields they love. I find the Tejon to be very deep and I have owned the V. But if you already have the V and cannot swing the Tejon at this time, then hunt with what you have and have fun.

I had a Vaquero and a Tejon. Loved the Vaquero for it's light weight and 1 nine volt battery, but the Tejon is a good 3 inches deeper in my soil.
I used my Vaquero in the farm fields and it did very well as long as you don't super tune it....it tends to like iron more super tuned. Still a great detector.
I never got a chance to use the Tejon in the fields before the crops got too tall this year but I'm very anxious to hit the fields this spring.
I traded my Vaquero off but will probably own another one some day. I think you are gonna be very happy with the Vaquero !......HH
