From the land of the Bluenose.......I had just managed to shut the car door as the pitbull's face implanted on the drivers side window. The beast gave me that 1000 yard stare with it's beady, bottomless eyes and began to salivate vigorously causing a gooey gob to stream down the window. He bared his fangs and started to loudly growl........once again my neighbour "Paul Bunyon" had managed to wake me from the middle of my encounter with a pitbull in a schoolyard with his darn chain saw! Fully awake now supporting a cold sweat I observed through the bedroom window that it was going to be a great day with half of it already gone courtousy of night shift.
Today was the day my water machine was going to go through her first full sea trial. Packing quickly I deposited my six foot long custom digging bag into the back seat of Goquickski and zipped off to a local lake. Donning my chestwaders and new Seahunter Mk2 I entered the pristine lake and began my swish. Must admit the new machine doesn't have the soothing hypnotic purr of the old one but sure lets you know there is a target under the coil. After retrieving the first dozen targets I was now the proud owner of 10 pulltabs and 2 pennies.
Too much junk here for this newbie so I moved to another beach on the lake where I immediiately eyeballed a nice racketball racket and a golf ball. Such is life! Entering the water my first find there was a toonie. Yes, coffee money for the trip home. Next hour netted me a few more coins, even more pulltabs followed by another move around the lake.
Once again I grabbed my gear from the back seat and headed towards the docking area and private beach where several people were doing repairs and a clean up.Um...one of these folks looked rather familar. Then she turned around and looked even more familar. The look on her face when she saw me was without a doubt a perfect match to the pitbull in my dream and rightly so as I had dropped her quicker than an empty bottle of Bud when I meet Marie. After all we had had little in common save for afternoon naps, her enjoyment of making wine and mine of drinking it! I quickly said hello and retreated to the water where I eyeballed something under the water looking back at me.........you got it a diving mask. I hoped that it would fit so I'd have a disguise for getting past Marlene without a blowup.
After swishing and finding a few more coins, military button, kids rings and a host of nails, bottle caps and pulltabs I had my best find of the day. Ironically it was a small 10k gold ring with intertwined hearts.
Luckily, and probably more so for me, she was gone when I exited from my aquatic quest!
