Swinging lefty brings gold!

The power of persistence. Thurs. morning I headed down to my local beach only to find that I forgot my batteries back at the office. There were three guys detecting the beach and I got discouraged. Something made me come back the next day and I had the whole beach to myself. At the end of a 2.5 hour search, my right shoulder was a bit sore and so I switched to swinging left-handed. My lefty technique isn't that smooth, but apparently smooth enough, as I pulled this fat gold band out of the wet sand. So, my personal lesson is: be ambidextrous![attachment 72765 Ring614KLaJollaShores9Nov2007copy.jpg]

Because of a wrist imjury (car accident in 199:geek: i swing the coil with my left hand and dig with the right. I'm right handed but the pain was too important when i swung the coil for long periods of time. Now the pain is gone, but i keep using that system... the left arm has builded some muscle i guess.
Occasionnaly, i swith hands on scarce signals beaches... but when it's time to dig... it feels wrong and i switch hands again because my left arm isn't used to digging...

Nice fat gold !

Oddly enough, I'm going to field test a used Excal sometime this month. A guy at work is letting it go for $600. I'm using the lowly Garrett Ace 250 (successfully in wet sand I should note), but would like to get into a little shallow water now and then. The Garrett sounds like a pinball machine when salt water is running over the coil. Plus, one slip, and it's fried! - Jim

It always makes me feel great when i go to a spot that was hit a day beforehand and pull out a doozie. Great hunting.
