Swinging direction

Sometimes I get a super sharp "ping" going back and forth, but when I sweep at 90 degrees I get a "ping honk." I have yet to dig such a target for they are mostly deep and I believe likely to be junk. What's the word on such signals?

BTW, if I dug every signal, I would have no time for anything else in my life. The local park has THOUSANDS of "ping ping 90 degree ping ping" targets at 7"+ depth.

Thanks,

Well, I dont use that model machine but at 7 inches (although target is usually less than reading) it may be getting to the point of depth where perfect ID is lost. Type of soil matters too. Giving you a reading that is jumping around. This happenens on all machines.
Here is what I would do in your situation and there are a few. If there are really that many objects in the ground ,mostly just dig the shallower ones that ID better ,,and dig every 4th or so ,,target as you describe.(the deeper ones) Pay attention to how the Iffy targets sound and what they turn out to be. If none of the deeper iffy signals are good I would quit digging them after a pouchfull of junk. And depending whats found all together I might find another place to detect. LOL

Also need to ask your self ,what are you trying to find. If you are happy with new coins then just dig the easier shallow targets that ID good. If rings then you have to dig almost every signal. If ur after older coins may have dig all them deeper iffy signals. You know what I mean?

Bottom line is at that deep targets may not come in clear(goes 4 some shallow too), could be 2 or more coins, items , coin could be on edge slightly or some small foil above that is discriminated out ,but causes a iffy signal to target below.

Btw I dig everything for as long as I can take it. depending on what I find makes the difference weather to start getting picky or to go somewhere else.

Good luck

[size=large]Also remember, your detector is probably only good to about 8" on a US Quarter...2' on large objects...

some of by best finds have been deep iffy signals they may be testing you detectors limits or as already said on edge ect.found 1942 mercury dime 9 in dowm half coved by a rock with bh 505 it went ping ping one way ping honk another and not at all some times but just had a feel hard to discribe have fun and good luck it could be a seated liberty quater only diggin will tell for sure

Ok, I'll start digging them all, but one of you had better show up with bail money when I am arrested for destroying the local park.

Lmao.. I'll come bail you out. Where about you live? Could take awhile to get there.

Just do a little at a time n give it time to heal. lol

Good Luck

....was that once the coil got wet, both the 7" or the 10" coils, it would false like crazy on the ends of my sweeps. it always showed a target at 8" and did multiple beeps. it's pretty annoying. check your connection from the coil to the control box - they like to get loose, causing lots of falsing too. i finally glued mine in with some silicone. hope it helps, and hh!

Remember to keep your coil level with the soil...if you pendulum swing (lift coil at ends of swing), your gonna get that honk at the end of every swing...take it slow and steady...do not swing too fast...BH machines like a slow swing speed...should be able to count to 2 mississippi from left to right or vice versa. overlap your sweeps too...remember the cone of detection is like an upside down triangle...it gets narrower the deeper it goes.
