Sweep swing( what we all missed)

Of course many variables but remember this everyones hearing may differ a bit and a young fellow in his 30's may have super hearing..Discussed this fast swing with him and when he hears just a high spike he will slow down and re-evaluate the hit..Dial in various
types of headphones, mineralization, trashy areas etc. and it all comes down to what works for us and have to admit too slow or too fast may not do the trick, but somewhere in between is where its at. Myself am blessed with excellent tone ID hearing which is what an Explorer is all about...

I think you are on to what it is all about with the Exp., This is what I listen for, out of all the chirps and such, if it is iron, there is a milli-second pause before the sound, then I know it is iron, most of the time that's all I need but if I am in a trashy area then I slow down some and have to resweep the iffy targets more carefully. To me, it is in that silent pause before the sound that lets me know its iron. Of course I use conduct with -15 most of the time, I haven't got used to the lower tones differences of ferrous, that is if it breaks out of the -16 area to say -14, I haven't been able to tell it because the low sounds in that area sound alot alike to me thats why I have stayed with conduct, if it breaks out of the -16 area, then I know what is going on.
