I love the D2 but its not a good coil to use while learning a new detector. In fact, the D2 requires a bit slower swing than my other coils. A concentric coil can be swept a bit faster than a DD coil but they all have their pros and cons. A concentric coil may have the best depth per size of coil but has the disadvantage of nulling when more than one target is under the coil. A DD coil will seperate better, is less affected by ground minerals, but in my experience does not give as accurate of VDI's as a concentric coil. At least the D2 coil ID's bottle caps as quarters or dimes, a big difference compared to a concentric accurately showing +40 to +50 BOTTLE CAP. All coins VDI accurately. I am ok with the loss of ID accuracy because the advantages outweigh it. I am able to hunt very trashy areas that still have good targets where other detectorist raised their coil off the ground, took 20 paces, and continued detecting elsewhere.
My second favorite coil is the stock 950. Don't let the title 'stock' fool you, Whites chose to sell it on all their TOP LINE detectors for a reason.
I havn't used the 6x10 but I hear that its a good coil for both trashy areas and general use. It will cover good ground front to back since it is 10" long and still seperate well. Its too close to a D2 coil so I don't have an incentive to buy one and try it out.
