Sweep speed question..

Well I am going to take the Explorer out for a good run tomorrow, it will be the first time I have had a chance to go really detecting with it, other than a few test runs I my yard.
I was wondering, I have read a lot about the sweep speed, and to go slow.. Exactly how slow is slow? I have been using a Whites Quantun II, should I go slower with the Explorer?
In addition, would it be better to switch to Ferrous sounds starting out?
Thanks for any help in advance, and you all have a Happy Easter.

Slow is about 1 foot per second. You can go faster if your not trying for max depth but no faster than 2 seconds per sweep. I would say no on the ferrous sounds unless your in an area with a lot of iron or if your using iron mask which I wouldn't recommend starting out. Go with the 8" coil it's easer to learn with and don't expect miricals.
Good luck
