Sweep speed in clear ground,,,

If your in a clean site, (like a football field,) can you swing the coil like a sythe (SP) untill you get a bleep?

I have done the fast sweep at similar open clean sites and found a lot of stuff. The low and slow method would have been counter productive as I had limited time at these sites and covered a lot of ground.8" and less coins hit very well at a fairly fast sweep speed in my average soil conditions. The main thing is to over lap your sweeps and keep the coil level and close to the ground. As a matter of fact a very slow sweep will cost you depth and is not needed in clean open areas.Obviously a very slow sweep is called for in very heavy trash but that was not your question :)

PS It is best to test for optimum sweep speed at any given site on actual in ground targets:detecting:

I do one second each way in clean ground, about 2-3 seconds per sweep in trashy ground

+1 to what G4E said.

In these type of hunt sites, has anyone changed the "response" on your Etrac?------I have always run in "normal" response but lately have been experimenting with long & smooth a bit.------I don't like pitch hold, never have---but kind of like running in long or smooth for certain hunt sites.------Of the two, I think I prefer the long response----the smooth response sort of "snubs" the audio tone at the beginning & end of the target response but holds the audio response pretty even for the duration of the response (without as much variation as the long response has).----I'm just wondering if these two responses (long & smooth) are going to over-ride close together targets too much though.--------Any thoughts on this??-------I like normal response & have it so in-grained in my head but it has been kind of fun to experiment with the other two responses mentioned in open ground.-----They each got me a very deep target today (I.H. & token). :)--------Any thoughts/input on any of the four different responses you have used or tried?------And in what type of hunt sites did you use them?-----------Del

on the emulator the hold funtion changes the tone of the threshold also,,,,, not sure what I like best,,,

Interestingly I believe the manual says about 3-4 seconds per swing, but I've hunted with a guy that uses an ET before I got mine, and I kid you not I've seen him race around and still get silver. How I don't know, and if I hadn't witnessed it myself, I'd never believed it. Obviously we're not talking about challenging deepies, but still.

Got my machine last night uuuuummmmmm VERY nice.... not as heavy as I thought it would be ( been swinging the Silver uMax with the Clean sweep on and it's got me pumped up LOL) went out side in the front grass section of work and just listened to the sounds,,,, I think in clear ground the coil can be moved at a pretty good clip, it sitll seems to pick up a blip on targets ( mayby not the deepest or smaller ones) enough to make you slow down and investigate. All in all very happy with what I have. Plan an all day hunt on friday to get used to her ( her name is Elly) I have a 1870 house that's for sale tha i was given permission to hunt. Been over it with the uMax to get the shallow goodies and iron out,,,,, we will see !!! Thanks for all the replies gents !!!
