Ben goes on a vacation and leaves his cat and his neighbor takes care of the cat. When Ben returns from his vacation the cat is missing his wife and kids are upset and his neighbor feels really bad.Ben knows his cat will usually return but its late in the evening and takes a flash light and searches the neighborhood for the cat.At the old abandoned feed and grain store he hears a meow coming from a cat and goes to the door and there's a chain with no lock.Ben takes the chain lose and enters the store, dusty shelves the smell of sweet feed but the cat sounds like it in the basement. He shines the light down what looked like a root cellar eight feet deep one light bulb with a chain in this bare room. The cat scampers off,but he looks down and finds a fifty dollar bill half buried and then another. He then finds 7 igloo coolers packed full with 50 dollar bills. As most Sovereign are good citizens and above average in intelligence, would you take the stash or leave this estimated 7 million dollars in cash.By the way when Ben got home his Cat was there waiting. simple Yes or No.Thanks Ron

The key word here is 'abandoned', not 'stealing'. In other words, YES!

I asked Jeff the owner of the feed and grain store here in Oxford MI where my feed is bought.LOL ,he said not even a blink, absolutely yes, load those igloos up.HH Ron

MMmmm the feed and grain store is abandoned. That doesn't mean the money is. The person(s) that placed it there was for a reason - they are possibly thinking, who would look around in an abandoned feed & grain store down in the root cellar? I am sure this is just a temporary place until it is "safe" to move. All that this guy was looking for was kitty... There is POWER to the cellar so there very well maybe a surveillance system watching over the goods. Someone that may very well live in your neighborhood and that someone is most likely coming back for it. So even though technically you may not be "stealing" it, It could of been $$ from a bank robbery, extortion, drug transaction, ransom, you name it. Furthermore, how do you know if the money is or isn't traceable? There are too many variables / scenarios how this money could of gotten there. My feeling is this: I would not want to live the rest of my days looking over my shoulder. No thank you. This is my personal opinion and no offense to anyone that answered "yes". Ron, great scenario and question. Hope all is well on the farm.

No, to risky. I would not want to put my family in harms way. No amount of money is worth that.

Circumstances - I'd look for tracks; if none, then Yes. If tracks; become suspect of what is going on here - what years were printed on the bills??? modern, or earlier era overall?

That property belongs to someone so it makes it Private property and not public so you have no rights to take anything from it. Now if the owner says you can and signs a paper saying anything found is shared or is the person finding it can keep it. If this is not done and someone see you on the property you are trespassing and everything found would belong to the owner of the property from what I understand and you can be arrested like those roofer a few years back that found a hidden stash doing roof work as they got arrested and not able to keep any of the money because they reported they found it somewhere else and were trying to keep it.
Now on the flip side and the owner could not be found and it looks like it has been there for years with no activity around then there is a possibility I would keep it, but the hard part would never tell anyone about it which would be very hard for anyone to do. The reason is any relative of any owners of the property in the last 100 years would put claim to it as it was there grandfather or lost uncle.
Anyway this is how I understand how the law works and if I notice it is newer money and has been some sings of activity from this place that is suppose to be abandoned I would contact the law on it so it can be watched and if no one claims it then I believe after so long the person that found it would get it and not have a guilty feeling on keeping it.
Then again maybe look around and if no one is around take some and leave the rest, but watch it close to see if anyone comes around the place before taking any more. I feel I would contact the law on it if I found it to be sure on it that it is not stolen or belong to some drug cartel,

Rick,"Windfall" was a great book it should be at your local library.Ben the main character in the story made a lot of mistakes.A cooler full of 50 dollar bill's would be tempting and could be dangerous. The movie "No Country for Old Men" comes to mind.Had an interesting day at the museum,Mark a new Sovereign owner came in to ask question about his XS-2a and about places to search, going to get out for a search tomorrow. If I every did stumble on a large cache I would be extremely cautious. Thanks Ron
