:surrender: Sunray X-1 Probe Holder Mod? :surrender:

I took off my X-1 Probe holder off the battery end of my Explorer before sending it into Minelab. Sunray wants about $25.00 (S+H included) for that teeny piece of plastic.

Is there something I can get at the hardware store that will clamp the x-1 probe to the battery end of my Minelab Explorer?

Thanks!

I would try making something out of either velco,
or I used to have hose clamps that had a thumb
handle sort of like a wingnut so you could tighten
and loosen by hand with no tools, if you use something
like that you could tighten it to transport, and then
loosen it up so the probe will slide in and out when
you are using it.

Tony,

I hope this helps you out.

Try fashioning something from white PVC irrigation pipe and or the PVC fittings. Nylon cable or plastic garden ties also help. PVC pipe is easy to work and cut and join with the relevant glue. It can be re-shaped quite easily if needed by heating it up. I boil up water and put it into the hot water so as it does not burn or catch fire, retrieve the piece form the water with a pair of barbecue tongs(steak tongs)then hold with my hands using some heavy duty welding gloves. Soon as I achieve the shape I want I just dunk the hot piece into cold water. Sets, the desired shape permanently. Can be painted and co constructed with many other materials like wood aluminum other plastics.
Eg: Make a full lenth scarab or cut two rings off the end of a length of a 25 mm diameter PVC pipe or PVC fittings that are about 1 inch long. Expand them with heat to suit. Glue them to each end of a piece of flattened and the same diameter PVC pipe (or a flat piece of anything sturdy and about the same length of the probe. This you can Velcro , double sided tape or even tie on with electrical tape or cable ties on the body of the Explorer

Tony,

I don't have a minelab but I have Sunray on my garrett. Thake a look at this type of clamp and see if it will work for you. I can get you a couple if they are what you re looking for. They are available in hardware stores here for 29 cents each.

Tony,

My original Sunray probe holder is made from a modified back to back pair of the the following 3/4" clamps from Heyco. Go to this page and view the specifications for the part and you'll see the details.

http://www.heyco.com/pages/products/section_0/0-27a.html

Sunray mounts 2 of these clamps back to back and modifies them to fit the detector shaft and the probe which are different diameters.

The clamps I suggested in the previous post are also 3/4" clamps and need to be warmed with a heat gun (or hair dryer) to fit properly over the probe which is 1" in diameter, but they work as well as the originals and the heating is trivial. I made a couple of mounting sets for myself so I could simply attach the probe to different points on my ACE 250.
