This hobby is so strange. Sometimes you can't buy a good find, other times they seem to leap out of the ground and into your pouch.
Such was the case yesterday when after 90 minutes of trying to find anything on the sanded in beaches of NJ, my buddy suggested heading to his grandparent's house to detect their yard. He said the house was built in the 1930's and we both liked the idea of digging a Merc or two.
I got a deep signal and called him over to watch me dig a silver dime. I wish I recorded it because we both nearly fell over when this 1722 King George Halfpenny came out of the dirt pile!

He went back to digging and two minutes later and 36 inches from the first copper I got a mid range signal and dug my second copper. Then right in between the two holes, I got a third!!! This one read solid on 19 VDI, which still has me baffled.

I was beginning to feel a little guilty digging these on his grandparents property, but then he came over chuckling to show me something. "Can you believe I dug play money?" he said, handing me a tiny disk. I laughed while I explained that it was a silver Seated Half Dime!!!

It was a good ending to the day. He invited me back, but I told him he should fly solo on his next trip or two.
