Surprise Find

Coinseeker 78

New member
Went to a farm field for the first time on 10/28/08. My MXT with the 9.50 was finding a lot of iron and shotgun shell casings. Suddenly I got a VDI of a quarter. I dug and used my pinpointer to find the coin. There enclosed in a clump of earth was a nice green patina large coin. Thinking it might be a large cent I gave it a closer inspection. To my surprise I see it is a large cent but it looked different. Upon further inspection I discovered that I had an 1882 Canadian large cent. That sure made my day. The coin is in better shape than the photo's indicate.I will be back hunting that plot of land again.

Very nice find, great job. :clapping: Hunting the area again would be a good idea. That is the first one I have seen, thanks for posting it.

Love the coin! And it's in good shape also. Isn't it amazing how those old cents turn such a pretty green. Sure wish there was a way to get it off and not damage the coin in any way. I bet you'll be returning to the field soon. Good luck and keep us posted. Thanks for sharing and I wish you the best of luck, Nancy
