Surfmaster Pro Coil

Ogunquit

New member
A question for those in the know... The Surfmaster has 2 coils weighted & non-weighted. I plan on using a soon to be Master in the ocean around 3 to 4 feet deep. I plan on hunting the wet sand more than the water. My question, on the wet Sand is the weighted coil that much heaver over a longer period of time? Is the weighted coil a better over all choice? I know it sound stupid but I would hate to make the wrong decision. Thanks for your help.
HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE. Reed...

I have the PI Pro with the regular coil. It is light and makes for along day of easy swinging. The dive coil is about a pound heavier and not really that bad.

What I do if I need to make the coil stay down is to get an old sock and fill it with some sand and tape it to the rod at the coil. It weights the coil down and makes life easy in the water. When you are done, you have your light coil back. It's real easy to make a light coil heavier. It isn't so easy to make a heavy coil lighter. If most of your swinging is in wet sand, go with the lighter coil and weight it down as needed.

90% of the time, I use the light one for skimming the wet sand and light submersion. If most of the hunt will be wading or in the surf, I'll use the weighted unit.
A sock full of sand will work for weight. Lead shot will work also, as the machine only reads one piece of shot, same as it reads one link in a chain. There is also non metallic shot available.

Thank you gentlemen. I appreciate your help.
Houndawgg, I don't know if you remember me but I met you on the beach at Belmar N.J. about 2 summers ago I was using a fisher 1225. It was nice talking with you.
Thanks again. Reed

I also use the unweighted coil and agree with VaRon that you can swing easily all day....Its not hard keeping the coil right on the bottom..
