Surfmaster PI vs dual coil?

Seabird

New member
What's the difference? A whites Se guy said it was nothing but coil size. I have my doubts... ( and they did a bad job on my headphones retiring, but that's another story...)

Not sure what you're asking? Are you asking if a Surfmaster PI coil is different than a Surfmaster PI Dual Field coil? Or asking if there is a difference in the detectors themselves. What is a "White's Se Guy"? Who did a bad job on your headphones retiring? I didn't know headphones could retire. Just trying to help out here.

Retiring, for heaven's sake. I type rewiring and my helpful spellcheck feature changed it for me.
I want to know the difference in small gold detection on the beach, if any. Thanks for your response.

Tom, a White's Southeast representative in Florida sent me a newly rewired surfmaster with a 9 volt battery installed. It runs on 12 volts.

I think the dual field may have an advantage in depth (not much, though)...it also has an advantage in being able to adjust sensitivity to small gold that the pi pro lacks. On the minus side, though, the dual field's coil is considerably heavier. So in my opinion, it's a toss up. If you look like Mr. Universe, go for the dual field. If you're as puny as I am, stick with the PI Pro.

Never send your detector anywhere but Sweet Home they will always do you right. I love my Pro and dig plenty of fine gold with it. It's all in your ear and learning how to fine tune the threshold and gain for your area. I don't want a machine that would dig deeper than my pro unless I was using a back hoe.
