Surfmaster PI coming home today

Just wanted to say hi to all the beach/water hunters and let you know there's another hunter in your ranks. I've been in the market for a good PI machine for awhile and after educating myself with some great forum-member advice I found my machine. Headin out in a few minutes to pick up a "nearly new" Surfmaster PI I found for $300. I've been told that the older PI, with pulse delay control, may be the better of the two ( PI & PI pro ) in difficult sand conditions, which I believe I have in my area. ( Thanks UK Brian ) I've been land hunting for about 6 mos and now and I'm evolving back into the water. Minus tides and a flat swell...sounds like a good time to get started. Any last second tips ? See ya around.

Welcome aboard!! Enjoy the new to you machine. Can't help you with that particular machine as I have an Excal II as my primary machine and a Garrett Sea Hunter Mark II for my back up. As for general water hunting advice sweep your coil low and slow, dig the foil/nickel/pulltab signals to find the gold and have fun!! Let us know how the "Maiden Voyage" goes. HH

Clive Clynick has a book all about PI detectors and how to use them.
If you can find a used copy snap it up but they are scarce and you might need to buy a new one.

Read that book from cover to cover as it is filled with years of experience and knowledge.

Thanks guys. I've read some of Clive's posts on here and I will definitely be picking up his book ASAP. I picked up Jeff Fosters book for my MXT and it was a great investment. BTW- I picked up the Surfmaster PI yesterday and it is in almost perfect cond. Coil cover had a crack alomg one edge but I fixed that with a couple pieces of high-strength strapping tape. The seller even loaded iy up with new batteries. Machine ran fine on a test run but I wasn't able to get out to the water yet. After the busy fathers day weekend. The comtrol box has the old style black o-ring so I'm picking up a new red one before I take it into the water. Good luck everyone and Happy Fathers Day.
