Surface detecting, or shallow gimmies?

Have any of you detectorist, (And I know yall have) been in a situation where u cant dig in the ground because its just to dang hard to penetrate, or its a nice lawn , or U R just lazy and want to surface detect.. I was at a ballfield yesterday and I just wasnt going to break out the jackhammer for a coin. So once I located the target with my detector and feel like I have pinpointed it , I take the propointer and scan the area , if the propointer signals a target , I know its not deep and I have easy finds that way. I dont rely on the coin depth indicator, its a 50/50 thingamajig. I think they shoud call it a" target depth indicator." I know a lot of U people have been there before , but I do find it interesting when U locate a target with your propointer, or whatever U use, how the halo effect of a target can be 6 inch's in the ground and U think it was only at the surface with your pinpointer. I'm just having fun now , and I have only begun to scratch the surface.

I detect several gravel lots like that. If the Pro-Pointer doesn't pick it up, I don't try and dig because the ground is just too hard. Easy pickings, but still fun and adds to the coin count.

Oh yes, the target under a rock and the rock is so big you can't get it out of the ground, and one time at a park it sounded off as a quarter under the new fresh parking lot

Lots of my hunts are just like that. I just use my detector, Pro Pointer and a screwdriver to pop them out as fast as I can. You can sure up your totals that way.
