surface air supply

I was reading Bob Marx's book: The Underwater Dig and he mentioned something called an SAS or surface air supply which was way cheaper than a Hookah for shallow water diving. I wonder if they still make these things? This device was produced in 1965 by Outboard Marine corporation. Johnson Motors sold one called the Air buoy and Evinrude sold one called the Aquanaut. Just curious. I have never seen anything posted about these things. Bob wrote that they produced the cleanest air he ever used and he and his divers used them at Port Royal and had over 13,000 hours with no problems. Except having somebody keep the motor running with the small fuel tank. They had a flotation ring and he used it up to 50 feet deep and did not have any problems.

i like the hookah with the battery--more quiet and less hassles--i will be getting one this spring. What you will find will pay for it for sure

And if your at popular beaches and lakes you WON'T be appriciated. Been there Done that. Sold my gas hookah and stayed on scuba ever since. I can go 3 hours + on a tank, and sometimes use 3 tanks a day. I have 10 in my collection now and at 5.00 a fill I can live with that. I have considered an electric hookah but probably will only get one if I can't carry a tank anymore.

A while Back Casper had made a unit that he made for an air tank and the air tank floated on top with a flag and your hose, that way you don't have that on your back, looked real nice. Harold

I saw the battery operated units when I did some searches on the internet. I can see where the public would not appreciate a noisy, gasoline engine and it's exhaust on the beach or local swimming hole.

when in Hawaii i was on a snorkeling cruise where for 40 extra dollars you could Snuba--that is like mentioned above where the tank floats at the top and you can go down 40feet. Was pretty neat and will do it if i have the chance---i just feel comfortable with the electric model and being in my bass boat i will be safe from other boaters because i would only hunt close to the boat--
