Surf PI vs BeachHunter ID...Need some feedback. Thanks.

I've owned both models a few times and enjoyed both.
If you want one of the best swinging water machines out, that has to be the best salt water machine value, and well balanced, "deep" seekers, the PI Pro, is the way to go. I believe, it's rated to 200 ft. You'll find out shortly if you truely enjoy this hobby, because you'll be digging the smallest pieces of iron/bobbie pins in your area, but there will be no doubt in your mind, that you left any gold, by choosing, not to dig.
If the Pro is the one you choose, try and determine if the majority of your hunting will only be wading and wet sand hunting. If it is, go with the lighter black coil. If you'll be diving and waist to neck hunting, go with the diver/weighted yellow coil.
The BHID retails about $100 more than the PI and is a decent discriminater, which works decent in salt enviorments, and also swings nicely. The red, green, and yellow LED's are fun to watch(exspecially at night), but hard to see, when rear mounted. That combined with tone ID, makes it much more for the masses. It will find reasonably small gold jewlery. It's not a CZ20, Excalibur, etc., but it's not in the same price range either. It's only rated to 25ft. submerging, not a problem with 99.99999999% of the hunting world. The coil floating quirk's can be solved, by weighing the rod with shot or sand.
Both machines have to have the batteries charged by opening the case, which is not a plus for a water machine, in my opinion. Everytime this has to be done, there's a chance for it not to seal correctly. It only has to leak once, and you out "mucho" money. The Excal and Garrett Sea Hunter/Infinium, have the best recharge systems, neither have to be opened for recharging.
As with all machines, you have to get out and swing, you won't find gold in your recliner. HH

I LOVE THE B H ID !I CHEST MOUNT MINE SO I CAN SEE THE LIGHTS DAY OR NIGHT AND HUNT IN ALL METAL WITH THRESH HOLD LOUD SENS AS HIGH AS POSS. WITH OUT TOO MUCH FALSING.THIS GIVES ME GREAT DEPTH!! I USE A COIL COVER AND KEEP MY COIL TIGHT TO THE SAND ALMOST SCRUBBING IT TOO! THE LIGHTS KEEP ME FROM DIGGING MOST JUNK. THE PI WILL GIVE BETTER DEPTH YOU WILL DIG LOTS OF JUNK AT FIRST DEPENDING WERE YOU HUNT. BUT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO HEAR A LITTLE DIFFERENCE FROM A GOOD HIT AND JUNK WITH TIME.PI RULES HUNTING IN SALT SURF WERE THERE IS LITTLE TRASH!

I currently own them both, I use the BeachHunterID for freshwater hunting and wet/dry sand on saltwater beaches.

I use the PI PRO exclusively in the saltwater where there is little trash... I look for and hunt deep water troughs and go where many won't, in rocky area's where digging is hard but finds can be plenty.

Don't buy into the trash talk about PI's because all machines will find trash and when you use a discriminating machine you are going to lose a little depth. I'll take my PI over any detector in the water.. And I don't find bobby pins or pulltabs. Its where you detect that matters. :)

Beaches are sanded in here and all the plus tides turn me off so I haven't been detecting very much this summer.. Plus I fired my employee so I have been busy working. I feel bad I haven't even read the board very much.

I'm heading to Cape Cod for 4 days next weekend... Gonna try and get a little gold if the sharks don't mind lol... Last time up I did pretty well in the water...

I'm sure you know its been a bleak year for people using the water up our way... What have we had a couple really hot days?

I'm looking forward to winter waterhunting which I prefer anyway.. Lots of old gold :)

BH

There is nothing like hunting in 30 degree water lol... Its clean and clear and no one to bother you out there lol.. You get lots of stares from people especially when its snowing but it my favorite :)
