Surf PI Dual Field

Just a question about the White's Dual PI. I have not been able to work the Beach Hunter 300 here on the beaches of Lake Erie, period. Whites has agreed to replace my Beach Hunter with a brand new Dual PI. How is this machine in heavy metal ares like Lake Erie? I was kind of set on getting the Excal 2. Thoughts? Des Curran Buffalo, NY

Wow desond, The dual field is all metal machine your gonna dig your butt off on iron, The Excal II is the best machine in my opinion for any beach. It can ignore iron and works well in heavy black sand if set right. I would reconsider on the dual field, and get a Excal II. Good luck no matter what you decide. Gene

Hi Des. I believe you and I have chatted before. I have the BHID and the Dual Field and I hunt Lake Erie on the Canadian side. I'm sure you've heard of Crystal Beach. Now, CB has been hunted over the years by every water hunter from here to Timbucktoo and as a result, it is a very clean stretch of beach. I use the DF here exclusively and dig very little trash and very, very deep targets. If your particular beach on the US side has been pounded as mine has, then I believe the DF will pay off in spades with deep, old jewellry and coins. If you want opinions such as settings when you get your machine, let me know. I dont know about your locale, but over here we have alot of black sand and it can play hell with some vlf water machines, excalibur excluded. The excal excells in every enviorment that I've used it in. Good luck

I'm with Gene, the Dual field is a PI machine and hence works similar to other machines in all metal, no discrimination so every bit of metal is gona sound off, if its metal in the form of black sand and not scrap bits you should be ok but from your brief discription sound like its loads of scrap in which case you won't get very far before tiring out digging, can you elaborate a bit more on the problem using the BHID, it may sway the decision and answers

iv hunted Lake Erie from Cleveland to Sandusky and the Excalibur worked better than anything else

Thanks guys. I guess what I'm asking is, once I receive the dual frequency from Whites, should I just keep it in the package, and sell it on line brand new and up date to the excal 2, or should I open it up and try to use it here on Lake Erie. Basically, the beach I go to, Sun Set Beach on the American side, has too much slag for the Beach Hunter to handle, from what I can tell. I'm pretty much done trying to figure out the Beach Hunter. Sure its a great machine in certain areas, heck I fond some nice rings on Cape Cod with it. Pete, if you had your choice for one water machine, what would it be? We should also definitely connect this summer. Been doing all parks so far this year. Some nice barber quarters, large cents, etc. Des in Buffalo

Hi Des. I'm hitting the water in about a half hour. If you have that much slag on your side, the dual Field will be a nightmare for you. The Excal will null out iron but just remember that it is a slow motion detector and needs time to retune after nulling. If you try to hunt too quickly over infested iron, while you are swinging you may miss targets as the machine needs time to retune. It is probably the slowest swing speed detector that I've used. but, that being said, the excal is the machine of choice as it offers the best performance under all conditions. There are better machines for specific tasks,ie: very clean beach, no trash, deep old targets= surf dual field. I have several different machines and each one will outshine the others at it's respected task. Overall, if you can only have 1 machine, I would recommend the Excal. If you want to try my excal before you buy one. I would be happy to let you use it. Let me know if you want to come over and we will take you out.....Pete

I'd love to. Will be coming over lots as I teach and will have some of the summer off. I'll send you a private message soon. Great to hear from you Pete. Good luck today. Des

Would love to. Great to hear from you, Pete. Been busy with the 2 young ones. I'll send you a message soon. Have alot of the summer off because I teach, so would love to get over and hit her hard. Good luck today! Des

I don't see why the BHID won't work... I brought my DF to Erie in OH, man what a nightmare, I still hunted since I bothered to ship it up, but it wasn't fun, I did find 2 rings though...

When you say "slag" are you are talking about those melted bits of aluminum? I love my DF but hate those aluminum nuggets. If the Excal can tune those out and still find gold it might be worth the extra expense IMO. HH!
