Surf PI Dual Field

Having a problem pin pointing finds My coil has the bullseye which will pinpoint , and the middle of the coil can also pinpoint, how do u pinpoint ? the other problem is I get a double beep at times when I pass the coil over a coin, any help

I find that when I am hunting with my Dually the hole is so darned deep that pinpointing isn't an issue - just dig bigger holes with a bigger scoop. The center coil is the pinpointing coil in my experience but only once you get close to the target.

Some targets seem harder to recover as they fall through the scoop or sometimes they are nearly on top and slide off the scoop load back into the hole as you lift the scoop.

Using a sifter with very small holes keeps me from chasing most of the targets, but I have even had wire bits fall through the tiny 3/16" holes in the sifter.

When I move the coil away from my toe and place the bucket of my large scoop in its place the odds are in favor of the item being in the bucket.

Bottle caps, snaps off cans, and hair pins are the worst culprits in my opinion.

A couple of times I have lost targets in the hole and kept at it to recover gold rings!

Several times after moving lots of sand and stone I have moved on and never looked back!

Such is the dilemma of a water hunter,

CJ

large scoops does help..dig deep first time and try to get centered will help allot, but just keep digging, its there if you heard it, unless its a false tone cause machine is turned up to hot??
good luck

I use a surf PI Pro. The only time I get a double beep on a coin is when it is on its edge(usually happens only after I start digging or have dumped the coin off to the side). If it is double beeping on a coin laying flat I would think that this is not normal for the DF but I'm not sure. HH!

Hey Harv,

I bought a Dual Field last year and have put away the Excalibur and the Infinium until I have learned all there is to learn about the DF.

I have already found enough rings to pay for it water hunting and I am enjoying how the machine operates.

Where I hunt is a short distance from an electric train rail, a ship's channel, and under a major commuting flyway so I found the Infinium pretty demanding to keep tuned.

In spite of that I did well with it after I learned to understand its language!

The Excal is reserved for up on the beach (wet and dry sand).

The Dual field is Auto Ground Balancing and although sensitive to the signal interference I am still able to hunt well enough with it.

I like the light weight and long battery life too.

I have always been a "Garrett's Man" and wouldn't ever get rid of the three water machines I own or the Ace 250 either.

I am enjoying the White's Dual Field though!

In regard to goldak I called Whites they told me that if the the coin is very close to the surface it will double beep Hits one side of coil then the other. very confusing when trying to distinguish from wire and bobby pins I also have a gold Quest which finds smaller objects andis some what easier to pin point. By the way I use an 8 inch scoop with small holes Its frustrating to keep digging and not find the dam thing. Had a surf ...... by whites and never had this problem

I think the DF is very easy to pinpoint with... sometimes if a target is elusive (flopping around in the hole) I use the edge of the coil and listen for the loudest tone but that only happens once in a blue moon...

craig do you use the small bullseye at the tip of the coil or the larger coil hole,,are you hampered by double beeps what kind of scoop so u use any other pointers would be helpful thanks

is that to say it won't work well wading in the salt water? Will the White's DF work well in the wet/dry sand or is it just better wading in salt water? I want to buy a machine that will do both well, wet/dry sand and in the water, would the infinium do these tasks better? Thanks and good hunting. John

Many Hunters are overjoyed with the results they get using the Excals in the water (You might read past posts here and check out the Minlab Forum for info on prefered coil sizes etc.). I prefer the PI machines in the water, but the older model Excal I have works just fine there too.

It has a small coil and doesn't reach those deep signals at my favorite hunting grounds (which has been heavily hunted and has fewer junk metal targets) or cover as much area when I sweep the coil from side to side.

There are too many junk targets on the local beach to use the PI so that is where I use the Excal.

Lots of junk in the water is Excal territory too.

With my home built straight shaft it is very comfortable to use for long periods of time and I don't miss much unless it's really deep!

Regards,

CJ.

I guess it's decision time but I will mostly hunt the wet salt sand area so the Excal may be the better choice...HH

I find that my Dually is a handful in the surf, especially when the surf is crashing in hard. That big 12" double coil has a lot of drag, the rubber bushings can't keep it from flopping around and the positive bouyancy makes it even more of a fight. I like the Dually in the transition zone between wet sand and surf where that extra punch pushes deep to those targets that others can't reach. I dig a higher percentage of ferrous targets but one nice golden ticket makes it all worthwhile.
That said, conditions do vary from locale to locale and what works for me may not work for Cupajo or Max or Chuck, etc.

Water hunting is therapy and exercise for me and I don't struggle with waves if I can help it.

I want nothing to distract me from focusing on the signals I am hearing.

It's fortunate for me that where I hunt I can be relatively free of serious wave action most of the time.

The DF has presented none of those problems for me as a result and I enjoy using the machine for hours without being worn out.

I still have the factory shaft on it and have no desire to change it at this point.

Regards All,

CJ

Too true, Mate. Nothing clears the mind and calms one's thoughts like a nice walk in the water, no waves just a calm stroll and a bit of swishing.
However, I sometimes like the adrenelin rush of working the rough surf, right when the goodies are being stirred up. Two very different types of hunts and I enjoy them both. That's one of the things that I really enjoy about this hobby, its' versatility - there truly is something for everyone.

Cheers Mate,
