surf master pi pro

Last winter my lady and I took a trip to one of the Hawaiian Islands, I took the PI Pro and my Excal along for the hunt. I had bought a new O ring for the PI as I thought the other one was getting a little flat, didn't realize the new one had a problem at the glued joint. Anyway I got a little moisture in the housing and eventually it did quit working. Called Whites when I returned and sent the housing and coil in for service. Guess what was in the new box when it was returned. A complete new unit was sent in its place, how about service like that!!! Kudos to Whites for sure, nuggethunting is coming to a close up here for me, but Hawaii is just around the corner....Can't wait to fire up the new Surf PI and the Excal......Good Hunting Geo

My Surfmaster PI Pro is very dependable and gets excellent depth. It is a bargain, worth the price. The only problem I ran into with a PI Pro is in trashy beaches where you don't want to dig every piece of foil and other trash. The Pi Pro cannot discriminate as well as an excalibur, but it may have a slight edge on depth. In the Southern California beaches, I prefer an excelibur or other VLF metal detector with good discrimination abilities. I like the PI Pro better in places where I will dig everything because of its slightly better range.

Long story short: Most east coast beaches work good for a PI Pro. Some west coast beaches and beaches in Texas are better with an excalibur. It all depends on if you want to discriminate trash. But the bottom line is the Surf PI Pro is an excellent value with outstanding depth and reliability. Definitely better reliability than the excalibur, and slightly better depth in most circumstances.

Best wishes,
J_P
