Surf Church at Bermuda's Southshore Beaches:thumbup:

I got out for surf church this am., late service 1100 and a small congregation of just one, me. The skies were threatening rain with possibly a thunderstorm, gusts to 25 knots and swinging from W to SW so I had to get out there quick before the waves made it a nightmare to hunt. You can forget hunting the southshore of Bermuda once the wind is from the SW quarter, it's like hunting in a washing machine.
I passed by Church Bay because it was already getting pounded and moved on to Horseshoe Bay which wasn't to bad on the sheltered end, not many people there at 0945, not much loot either that I could find.

I did pick up an earing that turned out to be a junker and a few pull tabs but the sand needs some time to clear out so with the arrival of more tourists and the lifeguards I packed up and headed to Warwick Long Bay and another go at finding some loot.

There was a big cut on the sheltered end of the beach but there was at least 4 feet of mushy sand in from my last visit so after messing around for 20 minutes I climbed through the rocks to Jobson's Cove which has been good to me in the past. Jobson's is a small pocket 60' by 60' that is very sheltered and a lot of people swim there when it is too rough at Long Bay. I was greeted by a few horseback riders out on a ride, at least it was cool for the horses.

Lots of targets and an hour into a good sweep of the area I hit a big target which I followed down to a brass shell casing, then another and with a final check of the now 18" deep hole I got a nice gold tone which I followed for another foot to a nice little 14k yellow gold band.

It's good to be back I thought to myself.:super:
With 2 hours into the hunt I started hearing thunder so it was time to call it a day. Discretion being the better part of Valor.
Hopped in the Toenail and drove back for my surf church communion, a dark and stormy made with Barritt's stone ground ginger beer and Gosling's 151 proof black rum - delicious!

Thanks for coming to surf church with me.

GaBeachsweeper, you have to use a sweet ginger beer and Barritt's if you can get it, don't use the jamaican style it doesn't taste right at all. Pusser's rum will work if you can't lay your hands on some Gosling's Black Seal. It's best if you pour the ginger beer over lots of ice and add the black rum on top.

Now that is what I'm talking about RING, RUM and Beautiful pics. of Bermuda. Thanks for sharing. The water there is so blue, bda you truly live in Paradise. HH

Nice ring, but WOW on finding the ring at plus 18". I you are using an
excalibur what settings did you use? I just started using my excalibur
in the water a month ago and can consistently hit targets at 12".
So far I have found lots of change, 10k mans gold band, 14k ladies gold band, and two silver rings. I have even found a folded five dollar bill at the bottom of a 3'swimming hole, yes the swimming hole is deeper in other areas.

Thanks for any information you can share.

Enjoy the day,

Planchkr

It was just good luck that lead me to this particular ring. I followed the signals the brass shell casings down to the ring. I do hit targets here in excess of 16" quite often but I think it has more to do with the local conditions in Bermuda.(no mineralization, little radio interference, no railways or HV transmission lines and a higher than normal salinity in the ocean) Either that or I got a lucky Excal from the folks at Minelab. You have the right settings from this forum, just keep your coil flat on the sand and go slow. A 10" coil covers a fair bit of beach even moving at a slow stroll, no need to rush. The most important thing is to figure out how to read a beach correctly so you can work the areas that will produce the best number of good targets. I highly recommend checking out thegoldenolde.com website for some good pointers, after that it's up to you to get the most out of your local conditions.

Looks like a good Sunday service to me!
