Super-tuning again!

Unfortunately, the thread on the 12" quarter was taken down a little after I asked a question about super-tuning. So here it goes again. I noticed on the video the gentleman was super-tuning the Vaq with the DISC on max and still found or heard deep coins. I was wondering how super-tuning works on lead. I if set the DISC just above the first notch over iron, and super-tune, would I get deep lead or would I do better just using all metal. In other words is there a significant loss of depth with relatively low DISC and super-tuning?
Thanks,
Andy from Hillsborough

Hi homebre, My take on super tuning is that there are two ways of doing it...first way, put your detector in discriminate mode (aftr ground balancing) and turn the threshhold all the way up...i.e. if you put it in all metal it would blast your ears off. Second way, when ground balancing your machine, tune the ground balance so that there is a slight nulling when you lower the coil to the ground. Either of these supposedly enhance the depth capabilities of your detector (and there are a lot of detectorists who will vouch for this).

Raising your discrimination tends to reduce the depth capabilities of your detector, so, my view is that if you are using low discrimination, and super tuning, you are getting the best of both worlds and should get better depth than if you were using high discrimination and no super tuning....hope this helps. I would like to know why that thread was shut down. I didn't see anything wrong with that post and I thought it contained useful information.
