Possibly bigger than Christmas on this island is the holiday called Cup Match. The 4 days of celebration that often goes on longer is centered around a cricket match but is also a host of other fun events involving the consumption of Black Seal Rum. The Sunday of Cup Match a Non-Mariner's Race is held in the bay beside our cottage, which attracts over 1,000 participants and spectators. Most everyone winds up in the water at some point and most are wearing their finest Bling Bling so I may have some good finds coming soon.:) In order to get a front row seat we bought a kayak made out of perspex which is the super tough plastic used to make jet fighter canopies, strong, lightweight and you can see the fish through it. You can also see any treasure lying on the bottom too, Very Kewl!
So here's our trip today.

Paddle around the point to Mangrove Bay

Non-floats are assembled on the beach and launched for the race

It doesn't take long for the non-floats to start coming apart, of course the contestants and spectators help:lol:

These wenches had their priorities right, the rum comes first

A good time was enjoyed by all, the bay was full to overflowing with boaters and copious amounts of alcohol were consumed in true Cup Match tradition. Most of the 300 plus boats will spend the night at anchor and head home tomorrow. My work crews will start drifting back to work over the next few days, Ah! Island Living!

Happy Cup Match Everybody,

BDA

any you are there just checking out all the losers.

It takes a while to get up to speed with island mentality. As a recovering workaholic on the island 12 step program I listen to a lot of Jimmy Buffet and attend regular events like this to remind me that life is not all work and no play.
I am down to 50 hour weeks now (at least mostly) so there's hope. The princess and I got out of there before things got into high gear, that's still too much for my tastes.

Have Fun, Play Safe,

BDA:cool:
