Is it normal for the X1 probe to emit false signals when the sensitivity is set high on the SE detector without the detector falsing. I have to reduce the sensitivity while using the probe to avoid excess falsing. What is my problem?
Mine has started doing the same thing the last few months. In fact...when I switch the probe on...I have to hit the pinpoint button as many as 5 or 6 times....pausing a second or so between each push...until it finally "detunes" and stops falsing.
It gets very frustrating...and I'm wondering if I don't have a short somewhere.
I will probably contact Ralph and send mine for repair when the season ends in a few weeks. He's a top notch guy
Hey Bryce, you are certainly right about Ralph being a top notch guy!! I had two probes doing the same thing. We need to replace the coils on both of them. They were falsing as you guys described. EddieB
I have notice the same problem when trying to use the X-1 probe with the sensitivity set way up. It seem to stop when I run the sensitivity in the auto mode.
My X-1 has always had to be detuned at least once everytime I use the pinpoint mode (with semi-automatic) and I assumed it was more or less the nature of the beast. It now requires at least two to three toggles or more between pinpoint and discrimination to remedy it. It also has lost sensitivity at the tip. The unit is pretty much shot as far as I'm concerned. I have heard on more than one occasion that an X-1's sensitivity can start to deteriorate after two years and the falsing will also set in. This might be unit specific, but I'm starting to doubt it and for over $200, they should last a lot longer. And I have checked for loose connections among other things. I have taken VERY good care of it. I don't see myself purchasing another at this point which is a shame because when it works, it's a great tool, but not when they have to be replaced or serviced every two years or so. I am being forced to look for an alternative.
How do I determine If the probe is defective, what are the symptoms?
With my EXP2 in the field sens. at 22-24 when I am probing holesand mond of dirt etc... after retrieving the target, I get some blips,(not solid tones as a target ), I dont know if they are false or small iron, junk. makes it a little more confusing to retrive target.
At home , I wiggle the cable and tap the probe, I get almost noBlips or false signals, sens. 22 to 32.
I have found that if I hold the probe too far away from the hole when I turn it on...I get some unwanted noise.
A QUICK and usually great remedy to this problem is to make sure you have the probe in the hole in the vicinity of the tartget before switching the probe on. 99% of the time...this has cured the extra noise for me.
Once I locate the target in disc mode...I then raise the probe about 2" away from where I think it's at...then hit pinpoint. Most all the time...this works well for me and eliminates any problem I thought I had.
If you still feel there is a problemm with it...I would give Ralph a shout as he is a top notch guy.
