Sunray X-5 or 6x8 SEF

Is there enough difference in target separation to get a sunray X-5 coil if I already have a 6x8 sef coil. Also what is the depth difference?

A friend has the x-5 , I have the 6x8 and we did a comparison in a public park with heavy trash.
The bottom line was that I wouldn't buy the x-5 unless I could find one used for half the price.
They're both very good with the differences in depth and separation just about what you would expect the difference in size to dictate.
Your results could vary as my ground seldom gives rec. sens. above 10.

I have both and really like both. What I do like about the X5 is it is smaller and a closed solid coil which does not hang up on any brush or tall grass and the SEF 6x8 is larger and open coil but as for depth and separation they are both fantastic ! That is why I have both coils:detecting:

I agree with roadapple. I have both and they both serve a purpose. I still don't use the X-5 as much as I do the 6x8 unless it is really trashy and the 6x8 just can't see.

I think the 6x8 may have a little depth advantage, but haven't compared closeley enough to verify.

The question was are they close as far as depth? I would say yes they are !:detecting:

Define "close". 1/2"? 1'? 2'?10"?
The 6x8 is definitely deeper in my soil

The X-5 is HANDS DOWN the best sniper coil out. The stock and x-5 are the only ones I ever use.

You're trying to compare a small coil to a mid-sized coil.----And yes, the depth difference is signifigant in favor of the 6 X 8 SEF (as would be expected).----As far as target separation---that would go in favor of the X-5.----They are both excellent coils & I have used/owned both--but you have to consider the intended usage of the coil.----If you plan on using it in very high trash areas, go with the X-5.----If you want it for moderate+ trash & a little better depth---that's the 6 X 8 SEF's "game".

Great post! Different coils... used in different situations.
