Sunray X-12 or the 10 x 12 S.E.F coil

If any of you where going to buy a large coil for your Safari which coil would you buy.
The sunray x-12 or the 10 x 12 s.e.f. and why,and have any of you used anyone of
these coil's for hunting in parks or open fields.Thanks for input..

X-12 Its light and separates better than anything I have used, and I have used them all.

Had both now just the X-12. I either got a bad SEF or really got a good Sun-Ray X-12 because it was'nt even close. The X-5 works great also. HH

bugg: I can't say that I have found anything deeper with the X-12 that the pro-coil would'nt have found. I live in TN. and hunt large farm fields and go to the beach several times a year and bought the X-12 more for coverage than anything else. But it runs very quiet and will lock on a good target in trash as well as any coil I have ever used. The SEF I had would'nt pin-point at all. Must have been a bad coil because I've never had any problems pinpointing with anything else in the last 40+ years. Another thing about Sun-Ray products is if you have a problem Ralph takes care of it.HH

You might want to Take a look at the Coiltek coils before you decide. They are designed specifically for Minelab detectors and are very sensitive.

For some reason the forum will not let me post the web address for detectordepot. Do a search for Coiltek Coils and click on the detectordepot list for details.

I use the 15 inch when I am in large fields. There is a small increase in depth over the stock coil but the 15 inch center gives 4 additional inches of coverage so you can sweep more ground in less time. It is remarkably light for a large coil (my buddies joke that it started life as the horn ring from a 1964 Lincoln Towncar) and the sensitivity is outstanding. I added a swingy thingy because of problems with my ancient shoulder and can go all day with the big coil.

I have the SunRay X-12, I think the stock pro coil is just as good. There is no more depth with the X-12, maybe the coverage is a little more but the 219 price tag doesn't make the coverage that much better. Shorty 2

I put the safari on man 18, relic, conductive, and blocked out except 38, also had it in high trash. I found five clad quarters, eleven clad dimes, two silver,( One merc, one rosie), two wheaties and seventeen pre-82 pennies. Now I have to say that in trashy areas the sun-ray out preforms the stock. I have hunted the race track many time

You had everthing blocked out but the number 38.I thought I used a lot of disc.I blocked out everything but 33 thru 39 and have taken heat on the boards for using to much disc but I think you have taken my title.The safari works great at high disc I think I am going block out a few more after reading your post. I have had it with Zinc Rotten Us Penny's.How long have you been using X-12?What do you think was your deepest coin using your method during your hunt above?If you were in a open area with little trash would you hunt the same way?I have noticed on the pro coil that the higher you run disc.the more often you pick up square nails and are harder to tell from a good target does the X-12 perform better?.

The reason I blocked out all except 38 was for all is because of the trash. The infield had all types of pop rivets that rang off between 33-37 and 39. Thousands of pop tops and metal from the cars took up most of the other numbers, I still dug some trash but the noise from the trash was greatly reduced. I'm not completely sold on the sun-ray x12, I think the price is high for what you get out of it. I just used it because it does cover a little more area. The deepest I have found anything is 9" a silver rosie.As far as zink, I never dig a 35 unless it over 4" deep. I have found your Indian heads come up 35. Normal detecting in pretty clean area I block out all numbers except 13-15 (nickles), 35-39. This is for strictly coin shooting, at the beach I use all numbers except 40. We all have our way of doing things and this works best for me. I have had my safari for two years and hunt at least 20hrs a week. As far as your rusty square nails, I have found where you find one there will be more so when I get a hit-normally 38-39 after I have dug one I run the detector over again changing directions by 90 degrees if it doesn't hit then it is a nail. This works most of the time for me, but nothing works all the time. Shorty2
