Sunray X-1 probe protection

Any ideas on how to protect the end, please?

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and in the plumbing section find either 3/4" black iron or galvanized pipe and ask the sales person if you can have the red thread protector cap on the end of the pipe. They put these on the pipes so the threads don't get damaged during delivery. Just pull the red tab and it will pop off of the pipe. They fit perfectly on the Sunray X-1 probe ends.

Still can't find them..maybe you could give a link?..digging with the site right now. Or maybe some kind of how to find on his site? Thanks

Or what i did is go to the pvc pipe section and get the actual pipe cap its thicker and just go around it with some silicone.

I've had different protectors on mine, but always ended up taking them off. The reason is that I don't "dig" with mine, so it suffers little abuse. I've seen some folks wear them down to nubs and, in those cases, a protector is a great idea. One thing I would recommend is that the thickness of the protector matters. Since the target never gets to the point of contact with the probe (highest tone), you have to adjust for the difference compared to no protector. It's not real noticeable or important...just something I noticed with some types of protectors.

I have an x-1 on the way. When it arrives I will probably just wrap it neatly with colored electrical tape as I did with my pistol probe.
It lasts a long time, is super cheap and easy to replace.

Hi all, I found these vinyl end caps online and thought they would work great for a tip protector. They are made out of pliable vinyl material which I thought might be nice if you hit your target with your probe it would not scratch it. They are the exact same size as the red tip protector that comes with the x-1 probe. They look to be thicker than the stock plastic one that comes with the probe. They cost $15.00 dollars for a 100 and that is shipped to my door. If a few people were interested than they would be worth ordering. Let me know what you guys think pm. me if you want

B-Ruce, The ones that come with the probe are very thin these ones are thicker and a vinyl/rubber compound. I think they would provide better protection and last longer. Just my 2 cents

You are a LIFE SAVER! I was having so much trouble finding these probe caps, especially since they have been discontinued. I picked up 2 of these from Lowe's and they fit like a glove. Your comment has been so helpful. Anyone looking for an X-1 probe cap just listen to this guy. He knows his stuff! Thanks again!!! HH

Also found that 1" Waxman Furniture Chair Tips #0067013 from Lowes work really well. They cost $1.47 for a pack of 4 at the store. There made out of thin plastic and they fit very snug.
